I have all the confidence in the world that West can finally break the drought and win the SOC. Talent for talent we match up fine, if not slightly better. This isn't the first time that's been the case though in this rivalry, its getting over the mental block of beating Burg. We have did it more times than any other team in history, but this isn't the 70's and 80's anymore. We use to trade games and championships back then. They kill us with depth now. We have 40 kids on the roster compared to their 80. If we can stay healthy and continue to grow on offense, this could come down to great showdown at The Rock week 10. Most important thing for us right now is to beat Waverly though. Can't look ahead

West will be fine unless burg makes a QB change.

You nailed it, depth is the biggest problem for West. Straight 11 on 11, I think West would be favored to win. However, that won’t be the case. Burg has lots of bodies to throw at West to wear them down. Plus, they have lots of bodies to withstand injuries between now and then.

I don’t think so. Burgs win vs mcnichols shows they can beat anyone. They will still win the SOC

The question should be “Is this the year West can win the conference?” Burg just finished 2nd in the conference two seasons ago to Waverly…and I can’t wait to find out!

Thats not rankings that's just computer points.. IMO if Burg had played West Portsmouths schedule so far they would be undefeated and if you would look at Joe eitels actually D5 rankings Burg is ranked higher than West .. but I do think that West should give Burg a game this year especially because it's at West this year .. but I give the edge to Burg just cause Burg has played a much tougher non conference schedule

If west can’t beat Burg this year, I don’t see it happening again for 4-5 years maybe.

Burg sleepwalks through the SOC. West definitely has a nice team, will finish 2nd, Sissel is probably the best back in the conference with Pica (Minford) and DLattimore & Glover (Wheelersburg) behind him. But, like stated above, schedule and roster size will propel Burg these next 5 games.

2011 is the last time West beat Burg, with Burg being on a 13 game win streak since then (played 3x in the playoffs along with regular season matchups).

All time matchup, Burg leads 45 - 27 - 2

Pretty good match up historically if you take out the 13 game skid. To be fair not many teams in the SOC have won against Burg in that span either

Few things are different on this West team from the last few years.
1. Every kid on this team has beaten Wheelersburg in Football in Middle School and most in Basketball in high school. That may sound stupid, but that hasn’t happened for a while. They also feel like they should’ve won the playoff game last year. They are not intimidated.

2. They are in shape. Over the last 10 years or so West probably had 4 guys who were honestly in the right condition to really play high school football at a high level. That number is in the teens now and you can see it on the field. Depth is nice for the reasons listed but honestly look at the best teams in the State, their best players rarely leave the field. What it does do is make your practices more competitive. But as far as the games, unless you have a bunch of injuries, you are fine.

Main thing is to keep improving. Waverly will be a tough matchup as well Minford. That’s where the focus needs to be and not Wheelersburg

I agree 100 percent on the schedule. I've said it a million times this year that I don't like the mediocre schedule in the beginning. We use to have some very good non conference games on the schedule. Liberty Union, Newark Catholic, Raceland etc. But we have been low on overall talent for 5 to 6 years not including the 2017 team. So I think we started to schedule down a little. Wellston has had some good years and no one could have guessed how down hill that has went.

I think Irwin is very underrated as a QB also mostly because it's not our bread and butter. He's became very confident and relaxed, makes smart decisions, holds composure well. He might only throw the ball 8 times a game, but will put up 150 yards and a few TDs. His favorite receiver Bishop is a threat to break it every time he touches the ball and one of the fastest kids in the league. Parker and Tipton are two more athletes that are in the shadows because of Sissels talents. This is an outstanding defense. Even against a bad schedule we are averaging only 7 points given up a game. We completely shut Portsmouth down, something even Spring Valley couldn't do. KIPP overall as a team isn't great, but they had more raw athletes than scioto county has combined. We swarmed the ball and forced many turnovers on them.

Depth will be the issue. We have some very good athletes that are young, but we don't have the luxury of being 3 deep or even 2 deep at some positions that you would be comfortable with. And losing one player like a Sissel could change the game alot more then Burg losing a player down this stretch. Let's hope everyone stays healthy on both sides.

BURG all day! I just can't see West standing up and pushing through. The great thing is, we get to find out soon. Stay healthy men.
