Marion local and new Brennan - CB combined total 11

Post by wobycat »

Both are holding up trophies tonight.

Our area needs to step it up at all schools. It can be done.

That would start with teams in Lawrence, Scioto, Pike, Gallia, and Jackson counties forming the most competitive conference possible, which would allow teams to have a challenging, competitive schedule from Weeks 1-10.

That’s a fantasy though.

Said this the entire time, you want to compete with the MAC it starts with putting the best of the best into one conference. Teams around here aren't willing to do that though MAC schools look at the end game a state Title, teams around here want the conference title and if they can compete for regionals great. Next after watching teams like South Range, Kirtland, Marion Local teams around here must get better at teaching guys in the trenches. Those guys didn't stay blocked they fought through blocks, they fought to shed blocks they held leverage and contain, when the blitzed they brought it and hit whoever jumped in the way to block they didn't try to go around. It's a different mentality just like in Kirtland and Marion Local those guys were trying to blitz and jump the snap they got caught a couple of times but man when it was timed it was impossible to block. The SEO must put a greater emphasis on LOS dominance if they want to compete with schools in the NEO plain and simple. Look at Ironton and South Range difference in that game was LOS on both sides and SR dominated all game long and they weren't bigger than Ironton but they were more technically sound.

Would start with Ironton, Wheelersburg, and Jackson to stop recruiting area kids

Geographically we aren’t made up like the MAC. There’s going to be some CB just from the layout of Lawrence and scioto counties. But the Mac does prove you can have a low CB and still win consistently.

Jackson
Ironton
Burg

Who else in the area can consistently offer high level competition? Not a knock on anyone! Jackson for example plays in the FAC which offers decent competition for the area but obviously isn't state level. In SEO going independent is about the only answer.

Maybe I missed him, but which player on Burg’s team this year was recruited?

Or the 2017 State title team as well. Lowery was basically the only outsider and he came in his Junior year. He chose to leave Portsmouth because they wanted him to play QB which he didn’t want to play full time. He played some QB his Junior year at Burg but very little. He did come in in the playoff game against Coshocton and got Burg back in the game in the second half but just wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit they were in.
