On a fullback trap play, the offensive linemen and tight ends will typically block as they would on a running play to the opposite side of the field, meaning they are "blocking back". The fullback, who is lined up in the backfield, will take a step towards the line of scrimmage as if he is going to block one of the defensive linemen, but then quickly cut back and run towards the opposite side of the field. The backside guard will pull and kick out play side tackle.

So you have the play side linemen and TE blocking back, the backside guard pulling and the FB changing directions after receiving the handoff.

As a play side blocker on this play, your main responsibility is to create a running lane for the fullback by blocking the defenders on your side of the field. To do this, you should:

Identify your assignment: Look for the defender you are responsible for blocking and get in a good position to engage him.

Stay low and keep your feet moving: Use a good stance and keep your feet moving to stay balanced and ready to react to the defender's movements.

Use proper technique: Keep your head up and eyes on your assignment, use your hands to control the defender, and drive your feet to move him out of the way.

Stay with your block: Don't let the defender escape your block and pursue the fullback. Stay engaged with him until the play is over or the whistle is blown.

It’s almost 2023 - people still run trap?

Even spread offenses often have the trap play contained in them

At Wellston, we execute the Fat Bottom Trap by putting a few pieces of cheesecake out on the counter. You should see those moms come running.

The BEST thing about people from Wellston is that they have JACKSON on their license plates!

Absolutely. One of the best single back pistol/gun run plays (I know this topic was about the Fullback trap though).

Hanna runs this here pay and cant wait to see what it looks like with the Whopper toting the rock. We tell the two tackles to go black an inside linebacker. The center makes a soft two handed snap to the qb and then blocks the guy iun frunt of hium,The right guard pulls left and the left guard pulls right. We have to rep the crap out of this so they dont run into each other. Which is what usually happens to the line backers. The FB runs the midline and chooses a whole. Its some of that Vince Lombardi stuff of running to daylight. I think this play is why Athens wont play us. They cant defend it.
