Article:Cleveland Glenville rolls to state title win 38-3 over Kettering Alter

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Last night, before 3,662 fans in Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium, Cleveland Glenville was able to take down Kettering Alter by a 28-3 score. That was never in doubt.

Things started out well for the Knights as they stopped D’Shawntae Jones for no gain, then it appeared that Ruel Tomlinson went 92 yards for the Tarblooders first score of the game, but a holding penalty, the first of eight penalties that Glenville would commit, nullified the touchdown. Glenville would shake the flag, and slowly they would work the ball all the way down to the Knights 16-yard line. From there, on the fourth play of the drive, Tomlinson rushed to his left and did not stop until he was in the end zone to make this a 6-0 game.

The nightmare that the Knighrs would get worse when Rod Owens coughed the ball up and when Phillip Sains hit him and pouncing on the rock for Glenville was CJ Newell.

Jones would cover the first 28 yards of the forty needed for the next Glanville touchdown on two nice runs. Tomlinson would cap the drive off when he found Damrion Witten for the 17-yard score to make this a 12-0 game with 00:38 left in the opening quarter.

Mikey Rose would get the ensuing Knights drive started with a 5-yard run, but that is all they would get as the next two plays were incomplete passes.

The Tarblooders would need ten plays to reach the 77 yards needed for their next score. That score came on a Tomlinson-Witten 17-yard touchdown pass to make this an 18-0 game with 6:48 left in the one-sided half.

Michael Russ would return the ensuing kickoff for nine yards to get things moving for the Knights. Noah Jones would pick up 33 yards on five runs to set up a 25-yard field goal from Tony Arcuri to make this an 18-3 game with 1:49 left in the half.

Glenville would take 10 plays to go 66 yards to make this a 26-3 game at the half, with Tomlinson rushing in for the two-yard score.

The Knights opening drive in the second half lasted for seven plays, picking up 41 yards, but ended on a sack of Gavin Connor by Darrrell Owens for a loss of eleven.

Jones got the ensuing Glenville drive starter with a run of nine yards. After Henry Reifschneide stopped Micquan for a 3-yard loss, Glenville would respond with a 22-yard pass to Witten. The drive would come to a close on an 18-yard touchdown run by Jones to make this a 32-3 game with 3:27 left in the quarter.

The highlight of the next Knights drive was a 19-yard pass to Russ, which ended with a 42-yard punt by Colin Wehner pinning the Tarblooders 9 yards away from pay dirt. A 78-yard touchdown pass to Quincy Rogers would end the scoring in this one, making the final score 38-3.

Glenville would outgain the Knights 461–130 with 254 yards for the Tarblooders coming on the ground. Glenville had three sacks while giving up zero.

It doesn’t seem that long ago when they were D1
But they still have elite players
