Been around the game a long time but never had a great explanation of what the competitive balance actually means. Anyone care to break it down for me?

Competitive balance in a nutshell for public schools

Each player is assigned 1 of 3 tiers

Tier 0: student lives in the district(doesn’t matter when the moved in. Could be all there since kindergarten or moved in as a senior). CB number is 0

Tier 1: student lives outside of district but has been enrolled continuously in the school since the beginning of 7th grade. CB number is 1

Tier 2: student lives outside of district but enrolled after the beginning of 7th grade. CB number is 3 for football. For other sports (basketball baseball soccer volleyball etc) CB number is 7

If the ohsaa would make the rule any student that comes into high school is a tier 3 regardless of moving or not, and tier 4 for more than two students who transfer it would fix a lot of the issues with transfers.

Two kids come in high school, add 7 to your balance
Three kids come in that’s 11.

Athletic directors don’t have to worry about address changes etc.

Wah, wah! We’re so small and weak, we never get transfers, life is so unfair! (Said to anyone listening at the bar from a board member)
