BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
School board votes 5-0 to suspend grades 9-12, but will remain K-8.
Students will be able to transfer to Monroe Central or River, or even Barnesville, but Open Enrollment is now on the table.
Sad for the underclassmen. Looks like 10 football teams on Blue Devils schedule looking for games.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
Latest enrollments had Beallsville at 32 boys and 28 girls.

While open enrollment is an option, students will be designated to either Monroe Central or River based on where they live. Beallsville High School also included grades 7 and 8, but those grades will remain in Beallsville and revert back to the elementary school building so the high school building can be closed.
Looks like a small enrollment jump for Monroe Central and River (and possibly others with open enrollment), but with those low numbers, it shouldn't impact much. Assuming a 50/50 split (which isn't necessarily true when you factor in open enrollment plus however they geographically divide the former Beallsville coverage area to Monroe Central and River), each school would be looking at an additional 16 boys and 14 girls for OHSAA classification.
Monroe Central 130 boys and 113 girls (plus Beallsville numbers)
River 81 boys and 77 girls (plus Beallsville numbers)

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
I'd like to survey those Beallsville students to see where they really want to go.

Lol you don’t know Monroe County. MC will get none of those kids. The parents will drive them to N-Y before letting them go to MC.NYBuckeye96 wrote: Thu May 29, 2025 4:30 pm Latest enrollments had Beallsville at 32 boys and 28 girls.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
There were a lot of Beallsville kids making impact on River girls/boys basketball. I can see more for football this season. Lot of playing time.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
Due to this closure, Belpre now has an opening in week 4 on this year's football schedule.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Beallsville to close as high school
Belpre is on top of it. Conversations with three schools to replace Beallsville. Waiting for confirmation.

Hannan and Madonna were two of the teams contacted. Madonna as of right now only has 10 players. Hannan is unable to schedule Belpre. Open dates don't match up. Only one team left. Oak Glen.

Another school is closing.........Bellaire St. John Central Academy. OHSAA website showed an enrollment of 10 boys and 10 girls, so I'm not sure what sports they had, if any.

Belpre picked up Oak Glen week 4 away in 2025 and home in 2026. 6 home games in 2026.

Those Belpre players/coaches/cheerleaders better hope there's an air-conditioned bus driving 3+ hours to OGHS.

I hope they can get a win. We certainly could use the playoff points.rockcoach wrote: Fri Jun 20, 2025 7:00 pm Belpre picked up Oak Glen week 4 away in 2025 and home in 2026. 6 home games in 2026.

Hoping our coach hires someone qualified to call the offense.
