Valley 2025
Valley 2025
I didn't see a post for this already so thought I would share Coach Crabtree's interview about this year's team. How many returning starters? Outlook?
Looks like a new QB.

Re: Valley 2025
There had been rumors that Powell may play, but with the interview we saw with Coach Crabtree, it looks like that may not be the case.
Valley returns a lot of kids, McNeill being one of the most important. Outside of the Wheelersburg game, Valley led every conference game in the final minutes, so they just need to learn to finish. West, Wavery, and Portsmouth are games that easily could have been in the W column, and Valleys staring at a 6-4 season, and playing week 11.

Powell tore his UCL in the District Championship game on May 30 and will have Tommy John surgery tomorrow. He was planning on playing but will not be able to.
Valley will be solid, returning key players and tons of talent.

Hate that for Powell. Hope he can return to full form as he should be on a college baseball mound with his stuff.ohioripper wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 11:03 am Powell tore his UCL in the District Championship game on May 30 and will have Tommy John surgery tomorrow. As for Valley, a lot of returning players on both sides of the ball, and one of best backfields in southeastern Ohio with McNeal/Aaron. But the question mark at QB makes me think they'll resemble West from last season who had a great ground game, but questionable passing attack.*

Re: Valley 2025
One of the mom’s posted the schedule on Facebook and it looks like the Piketon game is at home. That makes sense because they had the long weather delay up there last year.
I really hate to hear that about Powell. Makes sense as to why he didn’t pitch against Lynchburg. I wonder when he tore it? He threw a complete no hitter, really should have been a perfect game.

I think the West and Valley game will decide who’s #2 in SOC, if Valley can’t beat West and push Burg some this season not sure it’ll happen anytime soon.

Valley is prime for a few upcoming good/competitve seasons...Tigernation2021 wrote: Sun Jul 20, 2025 1:03 pm I think the West and Valley game will decide who’s #2 in SOC, if Valley can’t beat West and push Burg some this season not sure it’ll happen anytime soon.

He tore it during warm-up pitches in the 2nd inning of the District Championship. He said he felt a pop, but it was OK and wanted to continue.Baseball_Dad wrote: Sat Jul 19, 2025 11:25 am

Re: Valley 2025
Noticed that Valley has moved back up to DV, which is good for the health of the program, but that region looks loaded, especially with the defending D5 champs in Ironton.
Looking at the schedule, Valley does have the ability to go anywhere from 5-5 to 7-3 depending on how the ball bounces.
Looking forward to seeing what Coach Crabtree and the boys do this fall!

Re: Valley 2025
I just looked at the region... Even taking out Ironton, who on paper should run away with it, this is a tough region.

Re: Valley 2025
they should be better this year. good line and backs, same “questionable” qb though. 9 starters returning from that “superior” defense and oh can’t forget southern ohio’s best coaches.art_vandelay wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:44 pmHate that for Powell. Re: Valley 2025
Meant no disrespect at all towards West as they had a solid season (8-4 with a playoff win). But it was West’s ground game with Parker/Bishop that led the way. As for this season, expect West to throw more with the QB being more experienced, but still leaning on Bishop as he’s a heck of a back.SiderSammy wrote: Wed Jul 23, 2025 11:30 pmthey should be better this year. good line and backs, same “questionable” qb though. 9 starters returning from that “superior” defense and oh can’t forget southern ohio’s best coaches.art_vandelay wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 5:44 pmHate that for Powell. I think Valley is set up for same type of season this year with McNeal/Aaron running behind their O-line while breaking in a new QB. It going to take 7-3 to make playoffs in D5/R19, and they are capable of it.*
Re: Valley 2025
I like valley a lot heading into this year, with a healthy McNeil they should be able to win some ball games. Going to once again come down to figuring out the QB play and building off of that because simply running McNeil against Burg and West isn't going to be enough against those teams. I like the direction Valley's program as a whole is headed, I really see them supplanting Waverly as one of the top 3 in that group.
Re: Valley 2025
Valley will be fine. The things being talked about this season are basically the same things talked about every year. How will the kids respond when adversity hits? Do the kids tighten up in close games, or do they elevate and respond positively? Will the injury bug hit key players? Being in the playoffs will be nice, but it isn't necessarily the defining moment of a successful season, for me. Ironton, and possibly the Burg, are the only teams in the area having a realistic chance at a long successful playoff run. JMO
Re: Valley 2025
Thats what every team talks about every year. Thats standard football, thus why we have a forum to discuss those things. Being in the playoffs guarantees you had a successful season, as theres a low chance anyone under .500 will be in the top 12. Valley has 6-7 winnable games, 2 so-so, Burg is burg....the formula, players, coaches, are all there to have a great season, its about going out and getting it done.FIDO wrote: Thu Jul 24, 2025 11:21 am Valley will be fine.
