i was kidding about 8 ft tall, geesh. he is one of the taller/physical centers in the nba.

O’Neal finished the night with 19 points and 17 rebounds in 36:15 played. Oden got into foul trouble in the second half, and finished with five points and one rebound in 14 minutes.

"I’m the shogun," said O'Neal jokingly after the game. "And before you get to the shogun, you’ve got to go through a lot of ninjas. (Oden) has to go through Dwight Howard and Yao Ming and by that time, I’ll be out of here.”

oden really has a long way to go to live up to all the hype. this just shows he is still a boy among men.

the same amount that oden will have at the same time in his career. lets face it, oden was supposed to come in and be an instant star, and it hasnt worked out that way(bust). that doesnt mean that he cant have a nice career, it just means he hasnt lived up to ANY of the hype.

Kobe was supposed to make a great impact as soon as he came into the league,
we was a good sixth man his rookie year, but that's about it.

Are you willing to call him a bust, baised on your definition of Oden's young career.

first of all kobe went directly from high school so the nation hadnt gotten a glimpse of the rapist before draft. oden played a year in college and he got the exposure. totally different expectations from each. heck, charlotte traded the pick to the lakers because they were unsure of bryant living up to the hype. oden was expected to come in and be the savior right away(maybe not fair), but this was the case. oden hasnt even made it to sean bradley material yet and may not.

comparing oden to bryant entering into the nba is comparing apples to oranges.

it might be a little premature to call oden a bust, but based upon all the hype, he hasnt delivered.

ive never heard Oden compared to Wilt, I've always heard him compared to Bill Russell. A player who wins championships not scoring titles, someone who takes Defense more seriously than Offense.

The comparisons to Wilt came from Oden himself, while he was in High School.

He often talked about wanting to win more titles than Russell and score more points than Wilt.

These are great goals, and I would expect no less from a player who aspires to be dominate.

He will be a force in the league, he will turn into a 20 point 15 rebound and 5-10 block per night
guy, who when he gets better in the paint can dish the ball back out to Portland's guards and pick up
5-6 assists per night as well.

One other stat that you can't track, is shots that guys didn't take because Oden was in the paint.
How many times the shooter passed the ball instead of driving and the team ended up with a miss.

No player will ever be another Wilt, Russell, Magic, Jordan, Bird, Erving, Robertson, those guys are once
a lifetime players. He can however have an impact similar to David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, or Hakim Olajawon.
Although he likely won't develope the scoring threat of Hakim.

with those stats, he wont even reach dwight howard status. this is the pros, not too many people intimidated by a center.

No, try again.

With those stats after 15 years in the league he'll have

25,000 points
18,500 rebounds
4,500 blocks
5,000 assists

That would rank him all-time
15th in scoring
3rd in rebounds
1st in blocks
1st among centers in assists

This is without ever becoming a great scoring dominance.

I know being a Duke fan takes less brain cells, but at least use the ones you have.

so you're saying that oden will have half as many assists as magic johnson in his career. NOT!

you're also saying that he will have more blocks than hakeem and mutumbo. NOT!

and, hes going to out rebound kareem and moses. NOT!

you truly are off your rocker. take off the scarlet and gray glasses. you do know he is playing in portland with all those forwards who are pretty good. this is fun. what next? more steals than jordan, stockton, or payton? funny stuff.

Oden only needs to play to 35 in order to play 15 seasons, he'll do that.
Yes I know what an assist is, and as I said when he becomes a better threat at scoring
he will be able to kick it out to a guard for a score, hence and Assist. 3-5 assists per game
will not be hard for him to get.

like i said, he will be good, not great.

No, you said he was already a bust, after playing only two games.
Memory loss, don't worry it gets everyone eventually.

Never compared Duke and Ohio State academically, you must have skipped reading and comprehension class during second grade.
I said it didn't take many brain cells to be a Duke fan.

i wouldn't call him a bust. he has had six double doubles this season. missing a whole last year i would say that is pretty good.

he is a bust so far based upon expectations(reread your reading and comprehension statement above). if oden has the ball underneath which is where he will be 95% of the time, why in the world wold you want him kicking a ball out for a harder shot. makes no sense.

so now its 3-5 assists per game instead of 5 per game? which is it? make up your mind. oden is having a hard time beating out przybilla right now for playing time. he better start doing something or portland will look for a way to move him which would actually be a good thing for oden. like i said before, seems like a nice guy.

foul trouble and stamina seem to be his two glaring downsides right now. the stamina he can work on, but the foul trouble thing, learn to play good d and not rely on shot blocking all the time.

good luck mr oden.
