I see nothing changing with reds this year. Just some hurt players coming back. That wont be enough.
Need some help.

I am hopeful that the Reds can play some good ball this year.

Reds declined to offer Johnny Gomes (.267 20 HR 51 RBI 98 Games) a contract.

Exactly, which is why there's no reason to believe that next season will be any different from this past season for the Reds. Doesn't matter what happens in the NL Central anyway, with the Phillies acquiring Roy Halladay and Placido Polanco at 2B, they'll get the NL pennant again.

Looks like Volquez might not make it back until the All-Star break. That will hurt us.

You got to spend some money to free it up.

It sounds great to get rid of Baker, but Who is going to replace him? It is not like there are a bunch of Skippers out there who can't wait to get to Cincinnati

If they arent going to participate in free agency (except for letting their go), they had best develop the best farm system in the majors if they ever hope to compete for even a division title.

Guess what, I agree with you !!!!! If no changes are made , 500 at best.

also, It would seem that the top payroll teams like the yankees are the only ones in the playoffs. Reds are not even in the top 10. You can find maybe one or two that can make it to playoffs without yankee payroll.

Harang and Arroyo come to mind.

I think Harang should get one more shot, He can be very good, I think he should get a chance to see if he can overcome his injuries and put up some solid numbers.

Arroyo is a 4 or 5 guy and thats where he should be. The Reds have been using him as the number 2 guy and he just isn't that good. It hasn't been all his fault that he can't win games. How many times did he go out and throw great games only to pick up the Loss because they weren't hitting or the D was really bad. Over the last 2 years he has lost a lot of 1-0 and 2-0 games!

The Reds aren't going to get great pitching, not in that ball park. They can however go after solid pitching and great D.

The higher the payroll, better players, more play offs. Winning world series. Case in point yankees. There payroll is up to 225 mill this coming year . there loading up. What are the reds doing ?????
There are more teams in play offs with higher payroll. You get what you pay for.

I'd like to see the Reds spend a little more money here and there, but I'm not a fan of the "go out and blow tons of money every time you have a bad day at the ballpark" philosophy and that sort of payroll just isn't a reality for a team like the Reds. As GAHS said, the other teams are getting more for their buck; it isn't just the fact that the Reds aren't spending money. The Reds rely on their farm system and it's spawned some pretty good talent recently.
The Reds weren't very successful this last decade, but things look like they've kinda steadied. They've been consistent this decade for the most part (8 years with at least 70 wins, I believe). They've only had one winning season (2000), but they've finished close to the .500 mark for the most part. They have the best pitching staff they've had in the last decade.
Off hand two things I hope the Reds find are a consistent #1 pitcher instead of having to guess who's going to step up any given year and they need a lead-off hitter who can actually get on base.
It could be worse, guys: we could be Pirate fans. . . .

Hopefully I'll be able to get up to more Reds games this year. For my dollar, it doesn't get much better than a night on the first-base line with a cold beer in one hand, a program in the other, and a glove on my lap just in case a souvenier comes my way + a trip to the Reds' HOF before the game.

As always, GO REDS!

It's not as easy as just spending money. Remember when they spent all that money on Griffey?
