Cleveland Browns cornerback Kevin Johnson remains hospitalized with a lacerated liver, a serious injury sustained in practice when rookie tight end Harrison Bryant landed on him during a routine play, Johnson, who was signed this past offseason by the Browns and was expected to be the teams starting nickel back, was admitted to University Hospital on Wednesday. The team said the 28 yr old was resting comfortably and expected to be in the hospital for at least another 24 hr for observation. It's too early to say how long Johnson could be sidelined, as liver lacerations can range in severity from mild to very severe to fatal.

The Browns are having veteran Linebacker Malcolm Smith in for a workout this week. Smith has been in the NFL since 2011, first making his mark with the Seattle Seahawks, where he was a Super Bowl MVP. After leaving Seattle in 2014, he has had a hard time catching on long term, bouncing between the Raiders, 49ers, Jaguars and the Cowboys. Smith could bring some more experience even if it's just depth perposes.

Cleveland Browns cornerback Kevin Johnson has been released from the hospital after suffering a lacerated liver in practice this week. The team said he was discharged from University Hospital on Friday and is doing well. The 28 yr old is expected to be back at the teams facility in the next few days. He will have to go through Covid-19 protocol's before he can be reintegrated into team activities. The Browns said his status will be evaluated on a week by week basis. It is not known when or if Johnson will be back on the field. A 1st Rd pick in 2015 by Houston, Johnson had been having a strong camp before getting hurt.

Coming into training camp the Browns were very high on safety Grant Delpit out of LSU. Today Delpit was carted off the field with a possible Achilles injury, that is where things start to get serious. A ruptured tendon like that would possibly keep the rookie out until at least 2021, so there has to be high hopes that it is not the problem. With Delpit showing frustration, he could likely be looking at a serious injury. A strain of the tendon would be a much better outcome, still painful and a touchy injury that can linger.

The Browns were counting on Grant Delpit to become a force on the back end of their defense in 2020, but his rookie season ended before it began. Delpit suffered a season ending torn Achilles Tendon on Monday. The team announced Tuesday morning that Delpit will undergo surgery on the ruptured tendon after a MRI revealed the extent of the injury.

The Browns claimed the Dolphins 5th round pick in this years draft off the waiver wire today. Miami had placed the former Boise State defensive end, Curtis Weaver, on waivers with a foot injury on Monday, hoping it could put him on it's injured reserve list a day later. From what I read, the Dolphins made a habit last season (2019) of doing the exact thing to other teams, that the Browns did to them today. Weaver was the Mountain West Conference 2019 defensive player of the year.

Would it be worth the risk for the Cleveland Browns to bring in recently released safety Earl Thomas, just let go by the Baltimore Ravens. It may have been a possibility with the former GM of the Browns, but Andrew Berry's moves to date do not align with bringing Thomas in. The Ravens dumped Thomas for punching a teammate out of frustration, that is an obvious locker room issue, which has already been reported in the past that Thomas was not the most popular guy in the locker room. The talent of Thomas is still mostly there, he may not be an All-Pro caliber player still, which he has been three times in his career. Effort at times could be a problem for Thomas, notably on runs by Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry last season. It surely wasn't one of his best years, as more often than not he lined up at strong safety rather than free safety.

Curtis Weaver has the potential to work his way into the Browns pass rush rotation. Weaver recorded 34 sacks during his three seasons at Boise State, including 13.5 his final season. While those numbers are worthy of a first round pick, as did his excellent hand technique, Weaver slid in the draft, as concerns about his athletic ability and conditioning made it hard for teams to consider using a premium pick on him. While Weaver isn't going to see the field in 2020, the Browns clearly think highly of him if they are willing to bring him in despite his injury. Don't be surprised if he ends up as Myles Garrett's top backup by the start of the 2021 season, provided that he answers questions about his athleticism and his health.

The Cleveland Browns have claimed wide receiver Damion Willis off of waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals. Willis wasn't drafted, opting to sign with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent. Willis appeared in ten games in the 2019 season with the Bengals, with two games as a starter.

The Cleveland Browns have signed another center in Jon Toth, while they placed Curtis Weaver, a pass rusher and fifth round pick of the Dolphins on injured reserve with a foot injury. The Miami Dolphins are probably not very happy with the Browns as they were likely hoping that Weaver would clear waivers so they could then put him on their injured reserve list. Weavers chances of making the Browns active roster was next to nothing, but they get a 21 year old prospect with a ton of production, who can hopefully recover from an injury and then change his body over the next year.

The Cleveland Browns appear to be in the market for additional help in the secondary and may turn to veteran Logan Ryan to fill the need. Ryan is a seven-year veteran who spent the past three seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Ryan has played cornerback most of his NFL career, but would also be receptive to playing safety.

Well the Browns can look elsewhere as far as secondary help is concerned, as Logan Ryan signed a contract today with the New York Giants.

Browns tight end David Njoku caught a 10-12 yard pass from Case Keenum and turned it into about a 60 yard gain inside the 10 yard line, then later on he caught a couple passes from Mayfield and turned them into pretty good gains. I just hope that this continues during the season when he possibly isn't getting as much playing time as he would like. When the Browns signed their other big free agent tight end during the offseason, I just remember he hired himself a new shiny agent, and then demanded a trade out of Cleveland. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be a bit surprised to see the same thing happen again.

The Cleveland Browns linebacker unit received some positive news Tuesday, as 2nd year linebacker Mack Wilson was fortunate enough to avoid knee surgery. Wilson essentially confirmed that he would be back sooner rather than later.

Tight End Harrison Bryant has been named the the Browns 2020 Maurice Bassett award winner, given to the best rookie from training camp. Bryant said that it was nice to be noticed for your work and effort, but it is practice and my goal from the start, was just to work as hard as I could and try to make the team.

On Thursday the Cleveland Browns acquired third year safety Ronnie Harrison from the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2021 fifth round draft pick. The Browns have pretty much been decimated at the safety position throughout the training camp, most recently losing rookie Grant Delpit for the season with a ruptured Achilles Tendon.

The Cleveland Browns got down to the 53 man roster limit, and they have a team that could go out and play a game on Sunday, but as so many are quick to point out, the roster is constantly evolving and churning. There are a couple players that stand out as possibilities to ship out if the team sees someone they want on waivers, in a trade or down the road as necessary. There are usually two shoes to drop with free agency, the first is the initial cut, and the second is waiver claims and trades as teams react to the decisions made by other teams.

The Cleveland Browns took care of one of their key running game components Tuesday, agreeing with Kareem Hunt to a two-year extension worth 13.2 million. Hunt, 25 year's old, served as a backup to starter Nick Chubb in 2019.

After the Browns carried two open spots on their 16-man practice squad for over a day, the Browns filled one of the holes with a big new offensive tackle. The team signed Greg Senat to the practice squad on Tuesday. Senat was originally a sixth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens.

Myles Garrett says he considered stepping away from the NFL after the Mason Rudolph helmet incident. It triggered a season-ending suspension by the NFL, and ignited a firestorm around the Cleveland Brown defensive end. You hate to think that it would take something this bad to happen, for him to realize that he had been right on the razor's edge for quite some time, as far as keeping his emotions in check.
