The Reds today announced the following transactions

Reassigned to Minor League camp:
RHP Chase Anderson
LHP Brandon Williamson (AAA)
IF/OF Matt Reynolds

Released IF/OF Chad Pinder

I'm glad they decided to move on from Pinder however I expected him to stay because of defensive versatility even with his poor spring performance.
Williamson is being sent to AAA after a rough start last night. You can tell he's close to being in the big leagues but needs to work on a few more things including his control.

There are 36 players remaining in major league camp.

On 3/25 the Reds released RHP Hunter Strickland (won't miss him a bit lol)

Also on 3/25 the Reds sent Minor Leaguer LHP Steve Hajjar (acquired from the Twins last year in the Mahle trade) to the Guardians as the player to be named later from the Feb 8 trade where we acquired OF Will Benson

A lot of pro players set up deferred contracts similar to how Griffey's is set up. Most of the time it's so they can afford a player of their caliber while also bringing in and paying other top name players to keep payroll where it needs to be. Griffey has this year and next year remaining on his contract.

Other big name players who are not playing anymore and are still getting paid annually is:
Bobby Bonilla (Mets are paying him $1.19 million through 2035)
Rafael Devers (Red Sox will pay him $7.5 million through 2043)
Manny Ramirez (Red Sox will pay him $1.968 million through 2026)
Matt Holliday (Cardinals will pay him $1.5 million through 2029)
Todd Helton (Rockies will pay him $13.1 million through this year)
Max Scherzer (Nationals will pay him a total of $15 million from 2022-2028)
Amongst many others. It seems strange once they are no longer playing but when they are first signed, it's usually in the best benefit for the team.

The Reds have optioned LHP Bennett Sousa to AAA Louisville and reassigned OF Henry Ramos to minor league camp. There are now 33 players remaining in major league camp

Not quite sure what this means because I assumed when Pinder was cut that it would open up a roster spot for Ramos but after being reassigned I'm not sure what our thoughts are. Maybe picking up someone from elsewhere? I know the Brewers just released Keston Hiura who plays 1B, 2B and some OF. He is only 26 years old with decent upside. Worth taking a chance on and the price will be low

Reds opening day roster is set. The Pirates come to GABP today to open the season.

Hope springs eternal in the pitching trio of Greene, Lodolo, and Ashcraft. Help may be on the way in the Reds' highly regarded minor league prospects. That and injuries hopefully cannot be as prevalent as last year.

Yet many analytics say the Reds current roster is no better than last year's 100 loss team. Yet there is hope for improvement, and even if that does not happen, baseball for the sake of baseball is meaningful for those of us who are a certain age.

Barring another disgusting 3-22 start this year.. chalk me up for the Reds hitting the 70 win mark and finishing 70-92 4th place in the division

I have seen analytics having the Reds at anywhere from 55 -107 to 67-95. I will go with the 67 win total. The reason being that outside of the G-L-A starting trio, the Reds pitching staff is truly horrid with no apparent help available in the minors.

Same ole Reds. The starting pitcher has to be Ace-like at some point. Jake Fraley andΒ Spencer Steer were nice bright spots.
