quote from Brandon Phillips today on columbus sports radio.

"If we stay healthy, we win the division this year!"

Here's to hoping he's right.

Cabrera won't be much better than Janish unless he changes his trend in a big way.

I think Cabrera will be a very good pickup by Walt. Paul Janish is a nice backup shortstop and late inning defensive replacement but is not a starter in my opinion.

With the Arolids Chapman signing the Reds have had a very nice offseason, hopefully it will carry over to the field in 2010.

According to the Reds website they signed Cabrera to a one year 3 million dollar deal. With an option year at 3 million or a million dollar buyout.
I would have rather gave half of it to Gomes, but Gomes cant play short so what the hell do I KNOW! I knew enough last year that signing Willie Taveras was a joke.
I'm just sayin.

According to the Reds website today they have traded Taveras and Adam Rosales to the A's for Miles an infielder with little upside other than getting rid of Taveras.
Also found out that Taveras was designated for assignment already by the A's. So it seems like they were trying to dump Miles and his 3.7 million contract also.
Don't know squat I quess but, shouldn't they have just released Taveras. Kept Rosales and cut the loss of Taveras' contract  .
One thing for sure I hope that Rosales finds a ton of success and keeps on hustling. It was a pleasure to watch his youthful enthusiasm.

Great move by Walt. Addition by subtraction. Rosales was just blocking Frazier or Francisco from an opportunity and not allowing Dusty the opportunity to insert Taveras into the lineup saves me sanity.

The Reds will be mathematically eliminated by April 15th. Gotta pay my taxes so that day is crappy already!

Miles batted .185 last year while playing about 75 games... however his last year in the N.L. (2008) when he pplayed for the cardinals he batted over .300....which is what the reds need....but u have to say its hard to trade for a 33 or 34 year old middle infielder when he batted .185 the season before.

Also now u have 3 STARTING middle infeilders on your team in Cabrera Miles and Phillips....so when u sit one of them for a long stretch....ut wasting money that couldve been spent elsewhere!! Maybe Pitching?

I think that if Phillips can handle the role of team leader this year then the Reds will be that much better. Last year he wanted to be the leader but he wasn't ready for it yet. I don't see him wearing the C on his jersey he would really have to earn that but I do think he could really be a positive leader for the Reds.
