Cleveland Indians right hander Shane Bieber tied the major league record for strike-outs in a pitchers 1st two starts of the season, striking out 13 Minnesota Twins over 8 inn in the Tribes 2-0 victory on Thurs night. Bieber ( 2-0 on the year ) fanned 14 Kansas City Royals over 6 scoreless inn last Friday. His 27 SO in the 1st two games matched the record set by Karl Spooner of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Sept, 1954, during the 1st two starts of his short career.

Major League doubleheaders will now become a pair of ( 7 inn ) games, baseball's latest radical rule change during season reshaped by the coronavirus pandemic. Major league baseball and the players union reached the agreement on Thurs, on the new twinbills. MLB had already added designated hitters to the National league games this year, and also added an automatic runner at 2nd base to start all extra inn games. The free runner will now take his spot in doubleheader games that are tied after the seventh inn.

The Chicago Cubs have signed former Cleveland Indian closer Cody Allen to a minor league deal on Fri. Allen was assigned to the teams training site in South Bend, Indiana. The 31 yr old Allen agreed to a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers in Feb, but he was released by the Rangers last week. Allen had 32 saves for the 2016 Indians team that lost to the Cubs in the World Series. He struck out 12 batters in 6 scoreless inn against the Cubs in the playoffs.

If everything works out, former teammates Mike Clevinger and Trevor Bauer might be slated to face one another on Wed night at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Clevinger said that it had already started, I hadn't even gotten off the field, and before I got back to my phone and he had found out that we lined up against each other after our rainout, he had already texted me saying, "Guess who you're facing"? It's going to be a good matchup.

The Cleveland Indians have gotten off to a great start in the 2020 major league season so far. They did lose their 2nd game of the season 4-1 to the Minnesota Twins Friday night. the Indians are now 5-2 on the year.

I'm pretty sure that the Indians will be very happy to be getting away from the Minnesota Twins after this weekend after 3 straight losses. The Cleveland hitters have just continued to sleepwalk through their first road trip of the season Sunday, collecting only 2 hits in a 3-1 loss. The Tribe now fell to 5-5 on the season, and 3.5 games behind the Twins in 3rd place in the American League Central Division. With the Reds coming up pretty soon, it wouldn't be much of a surprise to see those Indians regain their hitting stroke pretty soon.

Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona is at the Cleveland Clinic getting checked out for what has been labeled a minor gastrointestinal condition, and he won't be with the team for Monday or Tuesdays game against the Reds in Cincinnati. Team president Chris Antonetti would not speculate if Francona would return for the Indians two home games this week against the Reds.

Cincinnati Reds catcher Tucker Barnhart helped lift the Reds over the Tribe in a 3-2 Reds victory, with his smarts and his arm. It was a difference maker for the Reds as Barnhart threw out two baserunners in critical moments of the game, and it proved to be a big factor in the Reds winning the game.

Gm Chris Andonetti said manager Terry Francona on Tues. underwent his second day of appointments at the Cleveland Clinic. Antonetti does not expect Francona to be away from the team long. He said that Terry has not been admitted to the Cleveland Clinic, but out of respect to Terry, I'm not going to go into details. He'll be in a much better mood if we win tonight, I can assure you of that.

Cleveland Indians hitting coach Ty Van Burkler will not be with the team for the rest of the season, after announcing Friday that he has opted out of the rest of the 2020 MLB season, due to having a "high risk condition" that could cause him to contract the Covid-19 virus. The Indians will replace Van Buckleo with two current coaches in the Indians system.

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Zach Plesac was sent home after protocol misstep. The Indians sent Plesac back to Cleveland on Sunday in a rental car after the young right-hander violated team rules and major league baseball coronavirus protocols. Apparently the 25yr old Plesac went out with friends in Chicago on Saturday night following his win against the White Sox. A source said that the team got Plesac a rental car so he wouldn't be on a plane with teammates and staff, in the event he contracted the virus. It is not known if Plesac has been tested since breaking the teams code of conduct. He will be isolated from the team and cannot take part in team activities until he tests negative 2 times for Covid-19.

The Cleveland Indians went home frustrated after their first experience with the automatic runner in extra innings earlier, but their second chance left a much better taste in their mouth. After Jose Ramirez was sent to second base in the top of the 10th inn, and moved to 3rd on a infield single, Delino Deshields executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt, Mike Freeman followed with an RBI single to lift the Tribe to a 5-4 win over the White Sox on Sunday night.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Mike Clevinger's free spirit may have put the Indians at risk. Clevingger flew home with his teammates Sunday despite knowing he had broken the clubs Covid-19 protocols, by going out in Chicago with pitcher Zach Plesac during Cleveland's weekend trip. Clevinger did not admit that he had violated the rules during a team meeting Sunday to discuss Plesac being sent home by the team.( Years ago some people might label that as being a liar ) The Indians said it's not yet known whether or not Clevinger Or Plesac have been tested since their violations were reported.

Prior to the game tonight, the Tribe placed both pitchers on the restricted list, replacing them with outfielder Tyler Naquin and lefty Logan Allen on the 28 man roster. The two can be activated off the restricted list at any time and they will receive pay and service time while they are away from the team. ( Sounds to me as if they are being rewarded for what they did.) Chris Antonetti, the Teams President of Baseball Operations, said there are no additional actions that are warranted or required. You show them whose boss Chris, I bet they are just a nervous wreck at the penalties that you have handed down to them.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After the Tribe's pitching staff had gotten off to a historic start, it's run has officially come to a close. The Indians had held their opponents to four or fewer runs in each of their first 17 games. But Cleveland's streak came to a screeching halt in a 7-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Progressive Field.

Four days after being sent home by the Indians, pitcher Zach Plesac is firing back for what he has says is an unfair portrayal of him breaking the rules. Plesac was sent home Sunday and placed on the teams "restricted" list for being in violation of the rules, when he broke curfew and was caught by a MLB security official returning to the hotel. To me this is a perfect case of an athlete feeling a since of entitlement, and being able to do as he pleases regardless of the rules. He and his buddy Clevenger are above the rules, the rules only apply to the other 26 players on the roster. When everything else fails, lets just blame it on the Media.

Cleveland Indians players went through an emotional wringer this week, so on Friday it was time for the Cleveland hitters to take out their frustrations on the road. Franmil Reyes and Domingo Santana hit big HR's and the Tribe scored 6 times in the 4th inning on the way to a 10-5 victory against the Tigers. The Tribe snapped a 2 game losing streak and picked up it's 18th straight victory over Detroit. and 19 out of their last 20 meetings.

Considering everything the Indians have been through in the last seven days, the Tribe players needed a weekend where they simply had fun while playing good baseball. Fortunately their opponent, the Tigers provided just what the doctor ordered. The Indians collected 8-extra base hits Sunday, including a season high 5 HR in an 8-5 victory over the Tigers. Franmil Reyes had 2 of the 5 HR. Cleveland has now won 20 consecutive games against Detroit.

Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Oliver Perez reportedly threated to opt out of the remainder of the MLB 2020 season, if Mike Clevinger and Zach Plesac were brought back to the MLB club. ( Good for you Oliver, at least someone on the team has a pair of -----.) Several of the Indians players were angered by both players breaking Covid-19 protocol, by sneaking out of the team hotel in Chicago. Some of the players were upset that Plesac was even defending his actions, and then blaming the Media for reporting what had happened. They probably stood about a good a chance of being shot, as they did of contracting Covid-19 in Chicago.

Indians Manager Terry Francona will have a procedure this week that will keep him away from the team as they play the Pirates in Pittsburg. Francona missed eight games just two weeks ago with a "gastrointestinal condition" that has forced him to have a number of procedures over the last few months. Terry Francona is one of the good guys in MLB.
