Hopefully the post season of the 2020 covid season carries over....so hard to tell for me.....I was just thankful we got to play and witness some meaningful baseball out of our beloved RedLegs last year.

Apparently MLB baseball intends to open spring training on time and has plans for a full 162 game schedule. Even limited attendance where the rules allow. Minor leagues, if they play at all, will start no earlier than May 1st.

As to the Reds, they look to be battling Pittsburgh for the cellar. Trading or not signing their better high salary players seem to indicate another rebuild.

It is get something now in a trade or lose all investment when they hit free agency. The Reds spent money on players over the last three years with little or nothing to show for it. Might as well cut payroll if you know you are not going to be in contention. It is simply business, the fans be damned.

Trevor Bauer Becomes The Highest Paid Player In Baseball

https://www.si.com/mlb/2021/02/05/trevo ... es-dodgers

The rich get richer. The Reds had no chance of signing Bauer.
$102M for three years with $40M in year one with the Dodgers.

Indeed it is. If the Reds front office is intent on another rebuild, I would rather see the club spend their resources on the farm system and develop prospects. That way they can at least get 4 years out of a player before they move on..The rent a veteran for two years wastes money with little results. What the Reds are doing now doesn't work.

The Reds were only 31-29 regular season, 31-31 after the playoffs, and that was with Bauer. There problem last year was the Reds having the MLB worst team batting average of .212, They could be a .500 ball club again and be somewhat of a contender in the very weak NL Central if they can hit around .250. I would not get your hopes up thoughh given the Reds woeful performance over the last ten years.

I think the Reds will finish 3rd in the NL Central. Cardinals are top dogs IMO (as much as I hate to say it)

I’m hoping with a full season we have plenty of time for some of our big bats to get on a roll.
Pitching wise: Gray and Castillo will do their thing. Elite pitchers. I’m looking for Mahle to have a breakout season. He was solid last year but had mistakes. I think he will be a good 3 spot for us. I think the 4 and 5 hole will be a rotation of Miley, Lorenzen and Antone. Antone is a good up and comer and never question Lorenzen’s work ethic. Dude busts his butt!
Would love to see Lodolo and Greene break out this year so we can roll with them next season.
Our Bullpen will be decent. Garrett, Sims and Doolittle will be used as our 7,8,9 inning guys in any order I believe.

Hitting wise, Votto is Votto. He says he’s going for more power (which I love) but would love to see a .270/.410/.500 slash line for him with 30 doubles and 15+ bombs.
Suarez, Moose and Castellanos are our big bat guys. The 3,4,5 and I’d LOVE to see each guy hit 30+ bombs with 90+ RBI’s. That would be crazy.
Winker I think is his breakout season, stays healthy and puts up good numbers! It’s safe to say he’ll face 80% RHP so I’m looking for a .275/.380/.460 slash line. I don’t think that’s too far fetched!
Senzel and Akiyama will platoon and I would love to see Senzel break out same as Winker. Aquino getting some AB’s as well.
Barnhart has been focusing in the cage this offseason from what I’ve seen and wants to break his season best hitting numbers this season but love his glove behind the plate!!
And our SS... I’m one who is optimistic on Farmer. He has completely revamped his swing and it looks similar to Rizzo. He may not be the best defensively but I wanna see him do well. He’s also been keeping track of those who have talked bad about him so hopefully he uses that as motivation!

As I am almost every year, very optimistic on the Cincinnati Reds!! I believe we have solid talent and when they can play together, we can make some noise! Sorry for the long post, just wanted to throw out all of my opinions. Let’s go Reds!!
