Ol DM was matched up with her one summer in the old sweaty hilltop gym. He held his own but in the end was no match for the great Katie.

Years ago, at the old central outdoor court a bunch of us from all over town was playing and this girl came over and was watching. One of the guys from that area ask her if she wanted to play. I had never heard of her, and I was guessing she around twelve. Right off I was a little shocked on the way she handled the ball. Had never seen a girl handle the ball like that. I can remember someone shooting the ball and at the time she was on the outside. I turned to get ready for a rebound and it looked like an easy one for me. Well from out of nowhere she came. She grabbed the ball out of the air and put the ball back up in a flash. I looked at one of my buddies and said darn. That was meeting Katie Smith. I was several years out of school and like I said I hadn't heard about her.
