Grad Transfer Placekicker Noah Ruggles Sign With Buckeyes:

From Eleven Warriors:

Ohio State got a boost to its special teams on Wednesday afternoon as veteran North Carolina kicker Noah Ruggles announced his decision to transfer to Ohio State as a graduate transfer. (excerpt)

I did not realize that the Buckeye place kicking game was shakey heading into the 2021 season.

Buckeyes Offer Grad Transfer Wide Receiver Daylen Baldwin

From Eleven Warriors:

The Buckeyes made an offer to Daylen Baldwin, a graduate transfer wide receiver from Jackson State who entered the transfer portal last week, after he visited Ohio State on Thursday.

Kind of surprising to offer a FCS grad transfer especially since the Buckeye recieving corp is considered to be the most talented and deepest in all of college football. Makes you wonder if Ohio State has undisclosed injuries or expect some player transfers from their wideout group.

The former 5 star recruit in 2018 played sparingly in his time with the Buckeyes. His departure however leaves Ohio State's already porous defensive backfield thin in depth given that Sevyn Banks and Cam Brown are still out with injury.

Well said. I think OSU's interest was one of adding depth. At Ann Arbor he will have a better opportunity at earning playing time.

Former USC 5 Star Linebacker Palaie Gaoteote Possibly Has Transferred To Ohio State

There has been no official confirmation of this by the university. If true, his addition would add needed depth and experience to a team that is replacing all of its starting linebackers. Honestly OSU will need all the help it can get on defense after its results in 2020.

OSU Embarks on NIL for Student Athletes

From WSYX via MSN:

The Ohio State Athletic Department has engaged with Anomaly Sports Group to provide student-athletes name, image, and likeness protective education and consultation.

A bill that would allow college athletes in Ohio to earn compensation for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) was unanimously passed by the Ohio Senate and is being considered by the House.

Ohio State said Anomaly will prepare student-athletes for success in maximizing their NIL. Anomaly’s NIL protective education curriculum will focus on intellectual property protections and business-level decision-making, due diligence, financial management and contract analysis for both marketing and entrepreneurship opportunities.(excerpt)

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/oh ... ar-AALoVxk

Ready or not NIL payment for student athletes is on the way. Heaven only knows what the unintended consequences will be. At least it looks like OSU is being proactive by providing educational resources to its players.

Well the NIL legislation got bogged down over political posturing about transgenders in sports. This caused Governor Dewine to issue an executive order allowing NIL in Ohio.

JT Tuimoloau Commits To Buckeyes

JT Tuimoloau, the nation's highest ranked defensive prospect, has committed to OSU after a long and torturous recruiting process. Tuimoloau, coupled with Jack Sawyer, give the Buckeyes two freshmen who could develop into the next Chase Young or Joey and Nick Bosa.

Looks like your in luck. OSU has announced they will be at 100% venue capacity in 2021-2022 as things stand now. Things could change and some restrictions might reappear, but you should be good to go.

Despite being Big Ten favorite, Ohio State cannot stave off dip in season-ticket sales

From Columbus Dispatch:

During an unconventional offseason, Ohio State's season-ticket sales for this year dipped. But the school anticipates there won't be any coronavirus-related attendance restrictions this fall. Ohio State has seen another dip in football season-ticket sales.

The school said Wednesday that it sold 42,373 season tickets to donors, faculty members and the general public by its renewal deadline on July 1. The figures, which were provided to The Dispatch in response to a public-records request, do not include student tickets.

Non-student season tickets have declined each year since 2017, when Ohio State sold as many as 53,926 seats — a number that could fill more than half of the stands at Ohio Stadium. It then fell to 53,151 in 2018, 50,868 in 2019 and 44,320 in 2020.(excerpt)

https://www.dispatch.com/story/sports/2 ... 039693002/

My reasons why:

Expense of tickets, parking, and travel.
Hassle of getting to and into stadium.
The game experience ruined by tv timeouts.
Game experience more NFL and less collegiate.
Every game on tv.
Lingering worry about covid.
Generally poor home schedule in most years.
Apathy building from winning to much.

Even in the banner season of 2019, certain views of the stadium revealed 15 to 20,000 empty seats at each home game. I feel OSU would be better served by reducing capacity to the old school 80,000.
