Yeah, hate to say it, the virus coupled with possible current events may bring the season to an early end.

15th ranked Marshall (5-0) entertains UMass (0-1) on Saturday the 7th at 2:30pm. TV will be via ESPN.

UMass is playing a limited 3 game schedule due to covid19. They lost last week to Georgia Southern 41-0. The Minutemen were a dismal 1-11 last season, so they should not pose a threat to Marshall. The contest should give Marshall's coaching staff an opportunity to develop depth.

UAB won its second CUSA football championship in three years by defeating Marshall's Thundering Herd 22-13.

UAB 's defense stymied The Herd in the first half and killed Marshall's second half rally by stopping what would have been a game tying two point conversion.

The Blazers held Brandon Knox to 67 yards on 17 carries. Grant Wells was 0-10 passing in the first half before finishing 8 for 23 for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall's offense stumbled for the second straight game gaining only 268 yards to UAB's 468. Defense wins champions and the Blazers only allowed the Herd 18.34 minutes in time of possession.

Marshall finishes at 7-2 and UAB finishes the regular season at 6-3. Both teams figure to earn bowl bids, but given the disruption to college football caused by the contagion, the who, where, and when they will play will not be known until 12-20.

Although reality set in the last two games, I felt Marshall overachieved early on. Head Coach Doc Holliday has turned The Herd into a consistent program capable of winning seven or eight games on average and being able to compete for CUSA championships. Given Marshall's recruiting footprint, that is exceeding reasonable expectations.
