Davis Poll 9/28/2015
football

The 2nd Davis Poll of the season has been released and there are some major changes in the Top 10.

1.LSU (PV Rank 6)
2.Ole Miss (PV Rank 3)
3.Michigan State (PV Rank 1)
4.Baylor (PV Rank 4)
5.ohio state (PV Rank 5)
6.Utah (PV Rank Unranked)
7.TCU (PV Rank 2)
8.UCLA (PV Rank 9)
9.Georgia (PV Rank 7)
10.Florida State (PV Rank 8)

The Biggest Movers of the week were the Louisiana State University and the Utah Utes. The Biggest Losers of the week go to Michigan State and TCU. Here’s what Davis saw.

WHY THEY MOVED

LSU is back. They’ve got that Quarterback and oh yeah, Star Heisman Running Back Leonard Fournette has emerged as the nations top runner, a title once claimed by Derrick Henry of Alabama. Let’s not be too hard on Henry, he’s still a lottery pick in next years NFL draft but Fournette or “Fournasty,” as Davis calls him is an absolute beast. “I’ve never seen a back with that kind of power and foot talent,” said Davis in a recent interview at my apartment. “What happened to Nick Chubb and Ezeikiel Elliot? Oh yeah, they got Fournetted.” Davis makes an excellent point that preseason hype for Chubb and Elliot has likely gone to their heads and in turn, they have produced underwhelming numbers. Elliot may altogether be out of the Heisman race. Four Chubb and Elliots sake, I hope the Bulldogs and buckeyes don’t play at the same time as the Tigers because the voters eyes will be all over Death Valley. The only downside to being LSU is wrapping up the season with late dates in Tuscaloosa and where Ole Miss plays. But for now, the Tigers are the King of the Jungle.

Can someone tell Utah that most Americans can’t find Utah on a map? You can try but my guess is the Utes do not care. Coming off a good old fashioned ass kicking of Oregon or “the team northwest of here,” as they are known in Ute country, Utah may very well be the best team in the Country. Oregon was dismantled 62-20, in a way not seen by Duck fans since the last time back years ago. The Utes defense led by their line was efficient and pushed the Duckies whichever way they wanted to. You could hear a Duck fart in Autzen by mid 3rd quarter as the Liberal crowd began to file out of the stadium and into the coffee bars and bistros to discuss hipper things, like thick framed glasses or how barbaric football is. See ya never Oregon, a team filling the void LSU left in the dungeon of once good football programs. Utah has a quarterback, receivers and players on both sides of the ball that insert this team immediately into the playoff picture.

Why they are Losers

Michigan State was riding high after the close win over the Oregon Ducks. The Spartans were poised to make an undefeated run up to the ohio state game and they likely still will. But the bigger issue for Michigan State is that the win over Oregon is not as impressive as it was 3 weeks ago. After Utah, the team that replaced Sparty in the Davis poll, obliterated the Ducks in Autzen, we saw how good Utah is and how decent Michigan State is. Don’t get it twisted though. The Spartans are playing the best football in the big ten right now but if the buckeyes ever get that “explosive,” offense going, Michigan State may be just an afterthought. Winner takes all in Sparty/buckeyes this year as the winner will play in the 4 team playoff. The loser will not have the resume’ to back up their claim to be in the playoff. Sorry, Va Tech and Oregon were good a decade ago, schedule up and then complain.

TCU. Davis obviously saw what everyone else in the country saw on Saturday night. TCU cannot play defense. And it’s not really anyones fault. The Horned Frogs are without 7 defensive starters from a lineup that held #2 Ole Miss to 3 points last season.Google it. It’s easy to replace 1 player. 2 players becomes a challenge(see Oregon in last years title game) but 7 is a bad joke. And that joke is on TCU. Heisman Taj Boykin is in the drivers seat of the Heisman contest but Leonard Fournette of LSU has hitched a ride to NYC to battle it out. Boykin is the best Quarterback in College Football and it was on display against Texas Tech in a hostile road environment. Techs defense had no answer to Boykin and the boys but on the flipside, TCUs decimated defense couldnt stop a renegade turd from falling out of a tight hole. At some point, the Horned Frogs are going to get got and that’s ok. They have the best offense in the country but missing 7 starters on defense will be the ultimate defender of a trip to the National Championship.

I'll tell you why LSU IS NOT a #1 team.

LSU has NOT shown anything other than Fournette. And they beat Syracuse (Who won 3-4 games last year) only by 10 points? LSU is One Dimensional with no consistent QB Play and non-proven progress.
