Marshall-UCF Post game call in show.

Post by ItownHosscat »

Sure sounded like alot of upset people tonight. One guy said he was a member of the Big Green club and said if Snyder was coach next year he wasn't gonna be in it.
Whos fault is it they are losing?
Im not a "fan" but I do like going to their games.
Lets have a nice discussion about this.

the administration cant have it both ways. You want a clean program or do you want to win like they did a decade ago. Im not an alumni nor a big fan of Marshall's. I did hold season tix up until this year. (I gave them up because of the ridiculous times of games) The Herd can go back to doing what it will take to win 8 or 9 games a year, but they will have to go back to "cutting corners" to do it.
My question is who's next? Rick Minter? The administration can listen to the "Big green" all they want, but realistically, what can you expect in huntington WVa.?

I went to the game tonight. Ive never heard a crowd chant to fire their coach like I did tonight. About the second quarter there was a huge Fire Synder chant going throughout the stadium. Ill say this about the game that QB is horrible. 90% of his passes were about 5 feet over the head of his recievers and that when he even got them near enough to them for them to try to catch them. Up until about 3 to go in the game I think the D had given up less than 200 yards total offense to UCF. They were being put in horrible positions because the offense was turning the ball over or going 3 and out every series. Maybe a change in QBs would be a better thing.
I dont know whats going through Synders head, but maybe he is be to loyal to a few of his players and he is relutant to make changes or something. I dont know, but if he is going to survive 1 more season he needs to fix the teams problems in the next 2 weeks.

That's the best he has at QB. You have to know how to recruit before you can recruit. I heard Snyder was going back to OSU to be a manager. When you are as bad as he and his staff is you have to start over at the bottom.

I hate to pile on, but I couldn't understand it when Marshall hired Snyder originally. From 2001-2003 he was OSU's LB coach and in 2004 alone was the D-coordinator.

To his credit, the 2004 defense was replacing a huge group of talent and was very young. However, he took a lot of heat from OSU fans for being too conservative on defense.

For instance, that season Purdue started off the season blowing out teams and scoring tons of points. Then in the middle of the season, teams started manning up on them and blitzing them often. Purdue's offense fell apart when that happened it was being discussed frequently nationally. Then, OSU plays them the week before the UM game and OSU came out playing a soft zone with few blitzes for the entire first half. They gave up 17 points. In the 2nd half, OSU manned up on Purdue and blitzed. They shut them out for the half and tied up the game with just a couple of minutes left. What did Snyder do? He went back to the soft zone and Purdue went right down the field for a TD.

At the same time, his D shut down the Big10 champs Michigan and then totally dominated Oklahoma State, coached by Les Miles. Remember, shortly thereafter Miles took the LSU job and he offered Snyder his D-Coordinator position. Apparently he was impressed with OSU's D. Snyder turned it down. Later, Snyder took the head coaching position at Marshall.

My point is, as a D-coordinator Snyder brought out mixed feelings and mixed results. Also, he was only a coordinator for one season before becoming a head coach. I think it was premature for him to become a head coach.

85 I think it would be Rick Minter, and with his Head coaching experience at UC he might not be a bad one.As a person Mark seems to be a great guy,but as a Coach there are alot that are upset with him.

Side note****C'mon 85 the reasson you dropped those season tickets was because of that ugly Vinson chick. :122246

Marshall has some players on this team. I dont think they throw the ball enough to Cody Slate. I think if Marshall loses one of its next two games and can't go to a bowl game then Synder is out. Cause right now Marshall is kinda a joke in C-USA.

It was said best in a post above. If they wan't to it right they have to give him time. Or they could go back to cheating and start winning again. Also, they should have stayed in the MAC. Marshall has always wanted to be more than they are.

Synder was handicapped before he even got there with Marshall joining the C-USA.

Why is it that ECU which is in nowhere USA is fine for the C-USA, but Marshall should have stayed in the MAC to win. It doesn't matter where you are you just have to recruit the talent to come to town and Marshall hasn't been recruiting that much talent.

I agree with purpleblood on that matter.
It was also mentioned on the call-in show.

How many players on this Marshall team are on the East Coast? I know it would be alittle harder to go to the west and get players but does anyone know if there are many guys say past the Mississippi River.

I believe it is much nicer in Greenville than in Huntigton. Come on. Theres only one way to get good talent to come to huntington WVa. for 5 years of their life. Bobby Pruitt can tell you how to get that done. If Marshall wants to be "big time", thenh thats what they will have to do.

by the way, are you sure this administration wants to win? Are you sure they want to go in the hole by making it to some bowl game in Shreveport or Boise? I doubt it. The problem, however, by not making a bowl game, is the lack of added practice time.

85inside have you ever been to Greenville. Greenville isn't even close to being better than Huntington. Heck they don't even have a mall that is worth going to. The campus does have a few more places to eat, everything from Subway to ChickFilA and a McDonald's Cafe on the corner. I think that Huntington has alot more to offer a student-athlete than Greenville will ever have. Since I have spent alot of time in both cities I feel like I know a thing or two about the two. The problem with Marshall starts with the president and the AD, for Marshall athletics to grow it needs to start thinking outside the box and for the Big Green Club to stop thinking like a bunch of old a$$e$ and become progressive thinking.

I think why people are saying joining the C-USA is not because of the lack of winning, but they rushed into it. Sure they dominated the MAC for what 6 years then they joined this new conference. They should have stayed in the MAC just to build up to joining the C-USA in about 10 years or so. By staying in the MAC and winning and going to bowl games you get more money and you get nationally recognized. Recruits are more likely to go to a winning program that gets nationally recognized than one who loses and isnt on tv. Plus if Im not mistaken most MAC schools are within like what 10 or 12 hours driving distance from Huntington. Their fans are more likely to drive that far to go watch them play than they are to some of these C-USA schools and vice versa for some of their opponents. That takes away from the school coffers also. Less money equals out to less spent on equpiment, training aids, coaches recruitment, and other things. So with that you are going to lessen to recruits that are going to look at your program. So they should have stayed in the MAC won a few more titles and Bowl games then after their pockets are lined with cash jumped to a new conference

ask 100 people who have never been to both cities. Have them visit both cities for one day. Stay in a hotel and visit both cities convention centers and main sports facilities. Hands down, 9 out 10 would pick Greenville. Greenville has much more pride in their city and is a much cleaner city than Huntington.

All of that matters none. Kids go to a school because they want something. What does the the athletic department offer me? The beer is just as cold in Huntington as it is in Greenville.
