Buckeyes Get Surprise Verbal From Texas Q B

Post by huedawg »

Surprise, surprise... the Buckeyes have landed a quarterback after all. After missing out earlier in the week on both Tajh Boyd of Hampton (Va.) Phoebus and Austin Boucher of Kettering (Oh.) Alter, the Buckeyes went all the way to the Lone Star State to find the next best thing.
His name is Kenneth Guiton, a dual-threat QB from Aldine Eisenhower High School. Guiton is rated as the No. 51 quarterback in the country by Scouts, Inc./ESPN.com and stands in at 6-2, 178 pounds and threw for over 1,600 yards and 17 TDs as a senior.

Turned down offers from perineal powers Huston, Rice, and Northwestern,
and canceled his trip to Wyoming to check out the cowboys.

Seriously though, this will make sure there is a backup option to Pryor,
with a similar playing style. He'll redshirt this year, and has even said he doesn't
expect to be more than a 3rd string guy for awhile.

Fill a hole that I thought we needed to fill.

I'm glad that the Buckeyes were able to get someone for this spot...

I was hoping they would go after the QB from Cleveland South. Hopefully this 3 star Texas stud works out.

While Tajh Boyd is clearly the better prospect, I think this is a better fit for OSU right now.

OSU has Pryor who will start as long as he is at OSU, period.

OSU has a shot at getting a very good QB in the 2010 class.

OSU is considered a near lock for stud Braxton Miller in the 2011 class.

A guy like Boyd would leave or be a locker room cancer if he wasn't satisfied with his playing time. Obviously, he knew that as well, since he chose Clemson (he wanted to play for national titles and go to the NFL.. obviously actually he just wants to play).

Guiton has already said that he understands the situation and actually hopes to red-shirt. He also is a kid with strong character ie. a locker room guy, strong kid spiritually, a "yes sir, no sir" kid, and a 1340 SAT (yes on the 1600 scale not 2400). It sounds like a perfect fit for a guy who will either always be a back-up or at least not a starting contender for a few years.

Also, apparently Tressel's philosophy in recruiting is that it's not the guys you miss out on that hurt, it's the guys you get and don't pan out. If that is the case, he must feel pretty good about this one. Because according to that belief, it would be best to never reach.
