Marshall opened their 2020 football season with an embarrassingly easy 59-0 victory over out matched Eastern Kentucky in a nationally televised game. The only thing of interest was the performance of the Herd's new starting quarterback, Grant Wells. The red shirt freshman from George Washington HS in Charleston threw for 307 yards on 16 of 23 passing for 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The next LISTED game is Sept 19 when Appy State is supposed to come to Huntington, but nothing is certain in this age of contagion:

What has Marshall accomplished in football that Ohio State has never done?

Marshall beat Clemson 13-10 in 1999. The Buckeyes are 0-4 against the Tigers:

A Marshall University football player charged with strangulation and domestic battery has been acquitted. The verdict for redshirt senior safety Brandon Lamar Drayton, 23, was announced Wednesday in Cabell County Circuit Court. Marshall suspended Drayton after his arrest last year. A complaint said a Marshall University police officer saw Drayton grab the victim and yell at her. Investigators said the victim had red marks around her neck and chest area. Defense attorney Rich Weston said that the women gave at least three statements about what had happened that were inconsistent with one another. Wow, I guess that the investigators really didn't see any red marks on the victim's neck or chest area, that it was just probably their imagination.

Appalachian State, Marshall's next opponent on Sept. 19th, used a strong 4th quarter to defeat CUSA foe, Charlotte, 35-20.

I am afraid Grant Wells and The Herd will not have as easy time against
Appy State as they did EKU.

Game day in Huntington as Marshall enters the contest against Appy St as 5 points underdogs. The game likely will pitt MU's passing game vs ASU's running game. The 23rd ranked Mountaineers hold a 14-8 series edge over MU, with most of those games played in The Herd's Southern Conference days.

Two opening drives of the game of Marshall n App State the Herds offense looked good with Brendan Knox leading the way and punches it in. Apps state offense takes rhe ball against the Herds defense that does rhe exact opposite of the offense. Dishes two personal fouls and helps rhe mountaineers March right down and tie the game up at 7.

Ensuing kickoff The Herds kick return team breaks it. Across kid field. And the gets called back wkrh holdjn.

Wells marching em back down field

Final Marshall 17 Appy St 7. I was surprised Marshall was able to out rush Appy 216-96 instead of relying on the passing game. The Herd also matched the Mountaineers physically on both lines scrimmage where I thought they would struggle.

Marshall Head Coach Doc Holliday and his young QB saw the two injured Appalachian State players on the ground after a collision, so they knew what to do next. Holliday called for redshirt freshman Grant Wells to run toward the side of safety Ryan Huff's replacement. Wells scored on a 12 yard run late in the third quarter, Marshall's defense came up with stop after stop and the Thundering Herd beat No-23 Appalachian State 17-7 on Saturday. Marshall (2-0) defeated a ranked opponent for the first time since winning at No-6 Kansas State in 2003. It also was the Thundering Herd's first victory over a ranked opponent at home since 1976. Coach Holliday said, for our program, it's huge. I thought our guys stepped up and accepted the challenge.

Marshall has a three week bye until October 10th when The Herd travels to Western Kentucky. Then again in the year of contagion, maybe M U can pick up an unexpected game.

Marshall travels to Bowling Green KY this Saturday, Oct 10 as they take on the WKU Hilltoppers. Marshall is 2-0 and WKU is 1-2. Marshall is a 7 point favorite but coming off a long layoff the Herd may show some rust. That and playing at WKU has not always been kind for The Herd in C-USA play.

Apparently it will be shown on Stadium TV via Fubo streaming, whatever that may be.
