The Senior Bowl has been a good one....

The LB core from the tOSU has not disappointed. Have played awfully well today.

Had little league baseball clinic today and did not get to watch but the highlights showed some good things from the Buckeye backers. I think the big part of the player evaluation in the Senior Bowl though is how they practice and measure up to the other players. Kind of a mini combine for players who need to impress for a better draft status. From what I have read, the OSU players stood out.

Ohio State Defensive Lineman Tommy Togiai said that leaving Ohio State after just three years was probably one of the hardest decisions that he ever had to make, but after talking with his family, and Coach Johnson and Coach Day, after some hard discussions, my family really just thought it was best if I declare for the 2021 NFL Draft. After a strong Junior season, Togiai sought feedback from the NFL's College Advisory Committee, which in turn told him that he probably projects to be a second or third round draft pick.

Even though there won't be a traditional NFL Scouting Combine this year, players are still receiving combine invites, and former Ohio State punter Drue Chrisman is among them. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the workout portion of the NFL Scouting Combine will not be held in 2021. Instead, Chrisman and the rest of Ohio State's NFL Draft Prospects will have to wait until Ohio State's March 30th Pro Day to workout for coaches and scouts.

Former Ohio State defensive tackle Tommy Togiai has officially received his invitation to the NFL Scouting Combine. The Combine invitees will have the opportunity to participate in virtual interviews with NFL teams and psychological testing, while some combine invitees, though not all, will be asked to travel to Indianapolis for an in-person medical evaluation.

10-2. @ Rutgers
10-9. Maryland
10-23. @ Indiana
10-30. Penn State

Another glowing article on Reid Carrico:

From 11W:

Ironton High School football coach Trevon Pendleton needed only one word to answer when asked what will stand out most to Ohio State fans when they watch Reid Carrico play.

“Effort,” Pendleton told Eleven Warriors. “Without a doubt, effort. The kid never takes a play off.”

Ask Ohio State coach Ryan Day why Carrico was the Buckeyes’ linebacker of choice for their recruiting class of 2021, and it’s because he has no doubt they’ll get that same kind of effort from Carrico in Columbus. (excerpt)

Former Ohio State All-American Aurealius Thomas, a Guard on the Buckeyes 1957 National Championship Team and a College Football Hall of Fame inductee, has passed away at the age of 86. Thomas apparently passed away on Feb. 5th, per a news release from Ohio State. Despite weighing only 202 pounds, which was undersized for a guard even in his era, Thomas was a star on both sides of the line for the Buckeyes and helped lead them to a 9-1 season in 1957, in which they split the National Championship with Auburn, while averaging a whopping 52 minutes of playing time per game.

Per an Eleven Warriors article, the Ohio State Athletic Department is looking at a projected 60 to 70 million dollar deficit for their 2021 fiscal year. As OSU appears to have the resources to weather the storm, you have to ask how do the weaker programs survive financially, especially since normal attendance may not be allowed until 2022.

Ohio State Sprinter Tyler Johnson, a senior and a native of Dayton, Ohio, today has ran the Nation's Fastest 400 Meter time in the Big Ten Indoor Track and Field Championships. Johnson was the star of the meet which just concluded today in Geneva, Ohio. He not only clocked the fastest time in the 400 meters Nationwide this year, he also won the 200 meters, plus he then helped his 4X400 meter relay team take first place as well.

Four-Star Chandler ( Arizona ) Wide Receiver Kyion Grayes, previously an Arizona Commit, has committed to the Buckeyes, about two months after he decommitted from the Wildcats. Grayes, is 6'1", 175, and reminds a lot of people of wide receiver Chris Olave, with his ability to play either inside or outside as a receiver. Grayes will be the 11th commit in the class of 2022. He is ranked as the No-127 th overall prospect in the country, the No-17 wide receiver, and the No-2 overall player in the State of Arizona.

Ohio State Pauses Football Activities For One Week

Per Eleven Warriors, the Buckeyes have put football activities on hold for at least one week due to an unspecified spike in positive covid tests. We forget that Big10 covid protocols are still in place even though contagion numbers are down nationwide. What this means for spring practice which is scheduled to start March 19th is unknown. The Buckeyes can ill afford to lose any spring practice time given they have to choose starters at quarterback, linebacker, and fix an honestly lousy secondary.

OSU Safety Marcus Hooker Suspended After Being Charged With OVI

The part time starter has been suspended from the Ohio State football team because of an OVI charge filed by Columbus police after the player refused a breathalyzer test. This is the second OVI discipline action Hooker has experienced at OSU putting his future with the Buckeyes in doubt. OSU already thin defensive secondary cannot afford personnel losses. Hope the young man gets the help he needs.

Asleep at the wheel of a McDonalds drive-thru with his foot on the brake in drive. So drunk they had to punch out a window to wake him up. I don't see how they can keep him around. Maybe if it was his first one but it don't seem he is learning.

Seldom used and often criticized as immature running back/kick returner Demario McCall to return to OSU for the 2021 season. I do not know if the extra year of eligibility due to covid benefits anyone.

Harry Miller, the five star recruit who had a disappointing sophomore season in 2020 as the starting left guard, will likely miss all of 2021spring practice due to an undisclosed injury. Miller who is considered the Renaissance Man of college football is an aficionado of classical literature and music, but had great difficulty in pass blocking last season.
