It was an extremely intense night of wrestling, where the #12 Buckeyes ultimately lost to #2 Michigan, 18-16 in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines took a 5-point lead after an upset at 133 pounds, but the Buckeyes were able to roar back, earning decisions in the next two matches to take a one point lead. It all came down to the final match in 157, as #8 Will Lewan of Michigan, and #26 Elijah Cleary of OSU battled it out. It didn't disappoint as the match went into two tiebreaker rounds and Michigan was ultimately awarded the weight class victory based on riding time, which also gave them the team victory.

125lbs: #11 Malik Heinselman (OSU) def. Kurt McHenry (MICH); D, 3-1
133lbs: Jack Medley (MICH) def. #23 Jordan Decatur (OSU); D, 6-4
141lbs: Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) def. #30 Drew Mattin (MICH); D, 6-5
149lbs: #2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. #7 Kanen Storr (MICH); D, 8-1
157lbs: #8 Will Lewan (MICH) def. #26 Elijah Cleary (OSU); TB-2 (RT), 3-3
165lbs: #7 Ethan Smith (OSU) def. #23 Cameron Amine (MICH); D, 4-3
174lbs: #2 Logan Massa (MICH) def. Fritz Schierl (OSU); MD, 14-2
184lbs: #17 Rocky Jordan (OSU) def. Jelani Embree (MICH); MD, 13-0
197lbs: Myles Amine (MICH) def. #24 Gavin Hoffman (OSU); D, 8-5
285lbs: #2 Mason Parris (MICH) def. #9 Tate Orndorff (OSU); TF, 20-5

Next up, Ohio State will wrap up their regular season next Friday when they host Penn State.

OSU wrapped up their regular season on the losing end against visiting #2 Penn State, 28-12. After the 165 match, this was an extremely tight dual, but the Nittany Lions kept plucking away to pull away from the Buckeyes. I believe that the Buckeyes are a better tournament team than they are as a dual team, but that theory will be put to the test with the B1G and NCAA Championships coming up.

125lbs: #8 Malik Heinselman (OSU) def. #18 Robert Howard (PSU); D, 5-2
133lbs: #3 Roman Bravo-Young (OSU) def. #24 Jordan Decatur (OSU); TF, 27-8
141lbs: #2 Nick Lee (PSU) def. #26 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU); MD, 15-3
149lbs: #2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. Beau Bartlett (PSU); D, 5-3
157lbs: #9 Brady Berge (PSU) def. #26 Elijah Cleary (OSU); D, 3-1
165lbs: #7 Ethan Smith (OSU) def. #13 Joe Lee (PSU); PIN, 2:33
174lbs: #7 Carter Starocci (PSU) def. #2 Kaleb Romero (OSU); TB-1, 2-1
184lbs: #2 Aaron Brooks (PSU) def. #17 Rocky Jordan (OSU); MD, 13-4
197lbs: #17 Michael Beard (PSU) def. #25 Gavin Hoffman (OSU); PIN, 1:21
285lbs: #13 Seth Nevills (PSU) def. #9 Tate Orndorff (OSU); D, 3-2

Next up, Ohio State will travel to the B1G Championships, March 6-7, in State College, Pennsylvania, where Penn State will host.

Seven Buckeyes will be headed to St. Louis next week to compete in the NCAA Championships. OSU earned automatic qualifications for Malike Heinselman (125lbs), Sammy Sasso (149lbs), Ethan Smith (165lbs), Kaleb Romero (174lbs) and Tate Orndorff (285lbs) based on their finishes at the Big Ten Championships. In addition, the NCAA released at-large qualifiers for the championships yesterday, and on that list for the Buckeyes were Dylan D'Emilio (141lbs) and Rocky Jordan (184lbs).

The NCAA Championships are March 18-20 in St. Louis.
