OSU opened up their season against a very good #3 Illinois team, falling 402.550-396.250 on Saturday. It was the Fighting Illini's second competition of the season, and although their first dual was a poor performance, they scored high in this one and moved to 2-0. After the first two rotations, floor and pommel horse, the Buckeyes were able to take a lead. Illinois then took victories in the next four rotations.

The Buckeyes had individual events wins in the floor exercise (Justin Ah Chow) and the horizontal bar (Jesse Tyndall).

OSU was not ranked before this past week because they had not competed yet. But, in this week's rankings, they oddly enough jumped Illinois after losing to them. This is because in gymnastics, there isn't a panel of people that pick the rankings, it's ranked by your team's average score. Illinois' score was very low after week 1, which hurt their average.

Next up, Ohio State was supposed to travel to Michigan on Sunday, but the Wolverines have put all athletic activities on pause due to COVID. Their next competition on the schedule after that is February 7 against Minnesota.

Added to the Buckeyes schedule for this weekend is a virtual meet against Navy. Yes, a virtual meet. This is where each team will compete in their own gym, with a live video stream being played in each of the gyms. The judges will also be judging virtually with a real-time live stream.

Competing in their first ever "virtual meet" in program history, the Buckeyes took on Navy on Saturday and picked up a 397.200-382.000 victory. Not only did OSU claim season high scores on the floor (68.850) and vault (71.600), but they swept every team event title, and every individual title on the day.

Next up, Ohio State will host their in-person season opener on Saturday when they host Minnesota.

In their dual against #7 Minnesota in their home opener, the Buckeyes posted a 401.050-387.250, in what was unquestionably their best performance of the season thus far. For the second straight week, OSU won every individual event title, while posting season-best scores on the floor, rings and parallel bars.

Angel Leon successfully captured three individual event titles on the rings, vault and parallel bars. On the floor event, Jesse Tyndall posted the win, while Justin Ah Chow put up a victory on the pommel horse.

Next up, Ohio State will host Penn State next Sunday.

The Buckeyes picked up a big-time victory at home against #3 Penn State, 405.500-403.900. OSU has been really heating up in their last couple of duals, and today's score was their highest of the season by just over 4 points, a massive amount. For the meet, the Buckeyes showed their deep bench of talent, as they were only to able to secure a win by one individual. That individual was Jesse Tyndall, who claimed victory in the parallel bars with a score of 14.300. Overall, the Buckeyes scored team event victories on the Rings (67.350), Vault (71.500), and the Parallel Bar (68.450).

Next up, Ohio State will have this week off before heading to Indianapolis the 26-28 for the Winter Cup, where only a select few of invited current and alumni will compete. Those athletes are still TBD.

Although no current Buckeyes competed at the Winter Cup, former Buckeye Alec Yoder recently competed at the USA Gymnastics-sanctioned Winter Cup Challenge at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Yoder, one of the most decorated gymnasts in Ohio State history, took first place on pommel horse with a score of 29.500 (14.650/14.850). He also finished third on parallel bars with a 27.450 (13.550/13.900).

During his time in Columbus from 2016-19, Yoder was an eight-time All-American. The Indianapolis native won the 2019 NCAA National Championship and Big Ten titles on pommel horse. Yoder earned All-Big Ten honors every year, including three appearances on the first team. He was also the conference’s pommel horse champion in 2016 and went on to be named freshman of the year.

Next up, Ohio State travels to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers on Saturday.

For just the third time this season, the Buckeyes put up less than 400 points in a dual, as they fell to #2 Michigan in a virtual meet 408.350-397.950. OSU picked up two individual event victories. Jesse Tyndall won the floor (14.050) while Dexter Roettker claimed the vault title (14.550).

Ohio State wraps up their regular season on Sunday, when they compete in a virtual meet against #12 William & Mary.

Competing for a Big Ten Championship over the weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Buckeyes had some high hopes, being ranked 5th in the country. But, all those hopes completely crashed and burned, as OSU posted their lowest score of the season, a 394.900, to finish 7th out of 7 teams. It wasn't all bad, as Jesse Tyndall earned 1st Team All-Big Ten honors in the All-Around competition. Michigan claimed the team championship with a 411.000 team score.

Next up, Ohio State will look to rebound at the NCAA Qualifier meet on April 16.

After just finishing out in qualifying their whole team to the national finals by finishing in 4th place on Friday, the Buckeyes were able to send numerous individuals. Of those individuals, Jesse Tyndall posted his third best all-around score of the season to earn All-American status by finishing 8th in the event.
