We probably wont see him this year but next season after Pope, Mitchell, and Gant leave he will have his chance to backup Simon and Eichenberg. In 2023 he could see an opportunity to fight for a starting spot if Simon or Eichenberg have a solid year in 2022 and head off to the NFL but could easily see them staying for 2023.

He still may win some reps. Defense looks far from decided.

I look for Carrico to be playing a lot before the year is out unless he take the redshirt. The young man seems to have a good head and will manage with this years results.

I think this week would be an excellent time for him to get his feet wet and see what he can do.. Obviously the defense needs a ton of work and why not let's get some young players in there and see what they can do

For the record, Reid Carrico played against Michigan State earning 7 snaps on defense. This was Carrico's 4th game and will be his last appearance in 2021 so as to.preserve his red shirt. Oddly enough, Carrico got more plays in than Tajeda Mitchell, the senior linebacker who was slated to be a starter at the start of the year.
