I have not decided whether I'll be covering any other Ohio State sports for this school year yet, but wrestling is one I really enjoy covering.

The Buckeyes begin their new campaign on Sunday afternoon at 1pm when they host 12th-ranked North Carolina in the Covelli Center. After a somewhat disappointing season last year, the Buckeyes are looking to rebound with some solid depth on their roster. Stay tuned for the recap of their match later on.

The Buckeyes opened the new campaign with a solid win over visiting #12 North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, 23-12. After the first half of the match, following the heavyweight bout, it looked as though this would be a dominant blowout by the Buckeyes. But, give the Tar Heels some credit, they stayed with it and won some matches they were schedule to win. Here are the final results, in order they finished:

165lbs: #10 Carson Kharchla (OSU) def. Sonny Santiago (UNC); MD, 10-2
174lbs: #6 Ethan Smith (OSU) def. #22 Gavin Kane (UNC); D, 17-10
184lbs: #17 Rocky Jordan (OSU) def. #17 Clay Lautt (UNC); D, 4-1
197lbs: Gavin Hoffman (OSU) def. Mark Chaid (UNC); MD, 14-3
285lbs: #7 Tate Orndorff (OSU) def. #33 Brandon Whitman (UNC); D, 2-0
125lbs: #15 Malik Heinselman (OSU) def. Spencer Moore (UNC); D, 6-2
133lbs: #13 Jamie Hernandez (UNC) def. Dylan Koontz (OSU); D, 5-3
141lbs: #14 Kizhan Clark (UNC) def. Jordan Decatur (OSU); SV, 3-1
149lbs: #1 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. #5 Zach Sherman (UNC); D, 4-3
157lbs: #2 Austin O'Connor (UNC) def. Jashon Hubbard (OSU); Fall, 3:43

Next up, Ohio State will travel to Tiffin, Ohio for the Ohio Intercollegiate Open on Sunday the 14th.

This is the Big Ten, and you can't expect anything other than going up against the best every time you step on the mat. The Buckeyes learned that (if they didn't already know it) on Friday night, when they hosted #2 Iowa on Friday night, and ultimately fell 21-12. Up until the 197lb bout, the Hawkeyes held just a 14-12 lead, but a decision at 197, then a major decision at 285 gave them the victory. Here is how the individual match-ups went.

125lbs: #17 Malik Heinselman (OSU) def. #10 Drake Ayala (IOWA); SV, 7-5
133lbs: #3 Austin DeSanto (IOWA) def. Dylan Koontz (OSU); TF, 19-4
141lbs: #2 Jayden Eierman (IOWA) def. #23 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU); D, 4-0
149lbs: #2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. #10 Max Murin (IOWA); D, 3-2
157lbs: #12 Kaleb Young (IOWA) def. Jashon Hubbard (OSU); D, 4-0
165lbs: #7 Caron Kharchla (OSU) def. #1 Alex Marinelli (IOWA); D, 3-2
174lbs: #2 Michael Kemerer (IOWA) def. #7 Ethan Smith (OSU); D, 6-3
184lbs: #7 Kaleb Romero (OSU) def. #18 Abe Assad (IOWA); SV, 3-1
197lbs: #4 Jacob Warner (IOWA) def. #20 Gavin Hoffman (OSU); D, 6-5
285lbs: #5 Tony Cassioppi (IOWA) def. #12 Tate Orndorff (OSU); MD, 13-4

Next up, Ohio State will host Maryland on Sunday afternoon.

The Buckeyes (6-2) got a little bit of a break from top-5 teams for one night. On Sunday, OSU defeated Maryland (5-7) by a final score of 39-4 in Columbus. After claiming victory at 125 for the Buckeyes, the Terrapins were able to win a match at 133, but after that, they never scored another team point. OSU then won the remaining 8 matches to run away with a team victory. This is how the individual matches went:

125lbs: #17 Malik Heinselman (OSU) def. Zach Spence (UMD); TF, 15-0
133lbs: King Sandoval (UMD) def. Dylan Koontz (OSU); MD, 10-0
141lbs: #23 Dylan D'Emilio (OSU) def. Will Berkowitz (UMD); Fall, 1:35
149lbs: #2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) def. Michael North (UMD); TF, 24-5
157lbs: Jashon Hubbard (OSU) def. Connor Decker (UMD); Fall, 0:41
165lbs: #7 Carson Kharchla (OSU) def. Gaven Bell (UMD); TF, 18-3
174lbs: Fritz Schierl (OSU) def. Dominic Solis (UMD); D, 5-2
184lbs: #7 Kaleb Romero (OSU) def. #12 Kyle Cochran (UMD); D, 6-2
197lbs: #20 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) def. Kevin Makosy (UMD); D, 10-3
285lbs: #12 Tate Orndorff (OSU) def. #31 Zach Schrader (UMD); D, 4-1

Ohio State is back in action this weekend, and it won't be an easy one to kick off the weekend. On Friday, the Buckeyes travel to rival Penn State, and then on Sunday there is a dual at Rutgers.
