Ohio junior guard Armon Bassett has decided to forgo his senior season at Ohio University and will try to take his basketball game to the professional ranks.
The Indiana transfer, who starred in his only season with the Bobcats, has decided to go pro after averaging a team-high 17.1 points this year.
Bassett helped lead Ohio to one of its most memorable seasons ever by putting together his best games at the end of the year, carrying Ohio to a Mid-American Conference Tournament championship and a first-round upset over Georgetown in the NCAA Tournament.
After averaging 30 points in the five postseason games, Bassett’s pro stock might never be higher. Making the jump to the NBA would be a stretch, but Bassett likely will play overseas.
Bassett first made the announcement about his decision on Facebook.com by posting, “This is my final week in Athens.†(His page is restricted to "friends.")
Ohio University Intercollegiate Athletics and head coach John Groce would not comment on Bassett’s decision, and Bassett could not be reached for comment.
