Ryan Day gets fired if he loses to Michigan in 2023

What are your thoughts on this topic?
Mine are he can enter 11-0 and be # 1 in the country but if he loses "The Game" again he will be fired before the plane lands in Columbus.

It's hard to have this discussion over a coach with a 54-4 record at OSU. But at the end of the day (no pun intended) OSU has superior athletes and he is getting out coached.

It probably won't be such an issue once the playoffs are expanded but if Day can't fix the 2 major problems on this team (defensive secondary and penalties) then I see them looking elsewhere for a coach.

It was hard to watch OSU shut them down the entire first half after having many opportunities to literally out the game away but kill themselves with dropped passes, penalties and DBs getting lost in coverage. 2 of the 3 issues have been a problem all season. OSU just made to many self inflicted mistakes that caused those issues to really get exposed yesterday.

Yeah, the dedicated OSU football websites are trending #fireDay right now. Fan angst and fan expectations at Ohio State are ridiculously high over any regular season loss, let alone to Michigan. Yet who would they get that would be better than Ryan Day?

Day doesn't deserved fired and talks about it right now are nonsense.

He does need to hire a REALLY good D secondary coach and assistants. That's the weak spot.

They are seeing the fruition of 3 terrible recruiting classes of D backs. Not only that, they are not getting coached. Same mistakes over and over. Out of position, never turn around to find/play the ball, loss their man in coverage.

OSU still has the talent. Discipline needs to step up, work on the D secondary and stop putting lineman that are stupid in the lineup.

First year D change under Knowles and they are much better.

But I think next year the real discussion begins on Days future if he doesn't get it done. Looking what OSU losses and what UM returns and its going to be an uphill battle.

Good points BR. Just an another thought to ponder. Has NIL complacency or envy crept into the OSU program?

Just face it. Michigan was the better team. They wanted it more. Harbaugh is a world class coach. Won coach of the year in college and the NFL. No other coach has done that. Also Michigan by 20+ again next year. Especially if Corum comes back, which is looking likely, if the rumors are to be believed.

I say give Ryan Cooper a lifetime contract. It's fun beating up on that team down south.

Lol. I doubt they fire him that quick if they keep having good regular seasons and winning bowl games. Heck, it took them over ten years to fire Cooper and he couldn't beat ttun or win bowl games. Now if they start losing multiple games in a year and getting relegated to toilet bowls after the year is finished then he will be sent packing.

superior athletes only from high school rankings

No, it's based on NFL draft picks and NFL player stats also.

This will be a non issue once the playoff system is expanded. Maybe as early as next year.

Ohio State and the typical top 5 teams in the country will make it essentially a non issue making the playoffs every year.

The B1G needs to realign the 2 divisions, with the addtion of the west coast schools, and not have the top 3 programs in the East together. It doesn't help them to play a mediocre team in the Conference Championship when it comes to playoff seeding with 12 teams.

You are talking about college players. They do not have NFL stats as you stated above plus, the ones that played in Saturday's game are not NFL drafted yet, so the NFL doesn't have anything to do with making them superior athletes at this time. They are called that by what they are rated coming from high school. A five-star players in name are more superior athletes than 1 through 4-star players, but once in college these people that do the star rankings are wrong and that just might have been proven in Saturday's game among players that have not been drafted and have no NFL stats.

Look, it takes two teams to make it a rivalry. Now, it is on like never before since Woody and Bo.

OSU squandered opportunities in the red zone settling for fg. OSU didn't make the adjustments necessary to stop the big plays.

Part coaching and a whole lot of poor play!

You have some interesting insights BR. Big10 expansion, the Big10 looking at eliminating divisions, and expanded CFPs will alter the stakes in The Game and the path to the playoffs.
