Doc kicks 3 freshman off Herd Football Team
HUNTINGTON – Marshall football coach Doc Holliday got preseason camp started Wednesday on an attention-grabbing disciplinary note.
The first-year head coach announced the dismissal of three incoming true freshmen as camp commenced at 9:45 a.m. at Edwards Stadium.
Instead of reporting for the first newcomers practice at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, running back Antwon Chisholm, wide receiver Fred Pickett and defensive tackle Mike Fleurizard were sent home to Florida.
All three are natives of the Sunshine State.
“We have high expectations of our players and these three have not lived up to what we require of a Marshall University football player,†Holliday said in a prepared statement. “They have lost the privilege of playing football at Marshall and have been dismissed from our football team.â€
Chisholm, 5-9, 175-pound native of Belle Glade, Fla., was expected to compete for immediate playing time at running back. The same was true for Pickett, a 5-9, 165-pound native of Pahokee, Fla., who was expected to be in the rotation at slot receiver.
Pickett was one of the more high-profile recruits since he originally had given a verbal commitment to West Virginia University. But Holliday was able to get him to renege and eventually sign with Marshall.
Fluerizard, 6-4, 285-pound native of West Palm Beach, Fla., was expected to be redshirted.
The departures reduce Marshall’s incoming recruiting class to 22 players

Seems like he is taking a stand and sending a message to the rest of the players. Then again these were the players that he recruited. He may need to do a better job in checking out players before signing.

Update
Court documents filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court link running back Antwon Chisholm and defensive tackle Mike Fleurizard to the robbery of a Papa John’s pizza delivery man. The robbery charge then links Fleurizard to the robbery of a Z Brick Pizza delivery man.
Both incidents took place Saturday, July 31.
Fleurizard was the only one facing charges as of 1 p.m. No other arrests have been reported.
Fluerizard, 6-4, 285-pound native of West Palm Beach, Fla., was expected to be redshirted. He was arraigned by Cabell County Magistrate Mike Woelfel and jailed on a $50,000 bond. His pliminary hearing is set for Aug. 13.
The criminal complaint charges Fluerizard threw the Z Brick delivery man to the ground, kicked him in the face and held him down while two other men grabbed the food and $290 in cash. All three fled the scene.
The Z Brick victim identified Fluerizard in a photo lineup.
The departures reduce Marshall’s incoming recruiting class to 22 players.
The case is being investigated by Huntington and Marshall University police departments.

Good for Doc, lay the law down early and let the team know that you will not put up with bad behavior.

This sends a message not only to this years players but for new recruits in the up coming years. What a way to start practice. Hopefully the team plays better this year.

This is what Marshall needs. A serious program heading into the right direction. Distractions like that can be harmful to a season. I think Marshall will have a tough time with their schedule this year, but they will be solid within the conference I believe. Best of luck to the Herd!

If doc starts recruiting a few players locally he might not have such a discipline problem, go outside of a 150 mile radius and you tend to get a bunch of thugs.

Good for Coach Doc that he is concerned about character rather than just winning football games, Realisticaly though, D-1 talent is scarce in WV, SE Ohio, and Eastern Ky.
Re: Doc kicks 3 freshman off Herd Football Team
Today Fluerizard's dad was on tv saying his son was not raised that way and that his son is wrongly accussed. Along with Marshall needs a player like his son. With his son's talent along with doing well in the classroom.
Maybe he is right but until proven guilty. He is now charged with 2 different pizza robberies.
Doc did make a tough decision today in moving transfer QB Willy Korn to defense. Korn said he wanted to help the team.

Re: Doc kicks 3 freshman off Herd Football Team
The statement by Fluerizard's dad made me sick when he blamed his son's problem on his association with Antwon Chisholm If he had been "raised right" he would have known what Chisholm was and would have stayed away from him from the start He's charged with two different robberies Seems to me that after the first one he should have realized that this was against his "raising" or is this kid a real slow learnerfarmer wrote:Today Fluerizard's dad was on tv saying his son was not raised that way and that his son is wrongly accussed.
