Cleveland State (4-4) won the first game of their three-team tournament with a three-point win over MJIT (0-7). Neither team shot the rock very well, Cleveland State 38.5%, NJIT 34.7%. Leading the Vikings in the win was, Tevin Smith (Danville, IL) with 13 points on 4-11 from the field. For the Highlanders, Tariq Francis (Pittsburgh, PA) had a game-high 24 points to go with 6 boards and 5 assists.

Boy that was a close one Cleveland State had to grind that out. Credit the defense in the last few minutes, as they held NJIT to every point. It was not the most attractive victory, but a W is a W.

Anybody get the feeling that the offense bogged down way to much in the second half? Need to tidy that to the next game. Nonetheless, grabbing free throws and strong rebounding were able to make things final. Go Vikes!
