Patrick Angle, former Logan QB

Post by Paladin »

Patrick Angle starts the season as the top back-up at QB on the Youngstown State team behind record setting QB Hess ( Dayton Chaminade). Hess has broken most YSU passing records including those of former Pros Ron Jaworski ( Eagles) and Cliff Stoudt ( Steelers, Cowboys). Angle got lots of work with the first team in Fall camp. At 6'1, 220 he has added arm strength while maintaining his mobility. Expecting several early season blowout games where Angle should play and of course should Hess go down, he'll play immediately. YSU opens the season at Pitt Sept. 1.

I actually rate him as good as Kurt Hess ( 6'3, 230). But Hess was there a year before him, knew the system and got to play first while Angle red-shirted. Just enough to make a difference.

Barring injury looks like he'll only get 1 year of solid playing time, its a shame because he probably good enough to start on some other teams but a good thing for the Penguins having a capable backup.

YSU upsets Pitt in the opener at Heinz Field, 31-17. Guins look to have a special year.

Angle plays 3 quarters in the blow-out win over Valparaiso, 59-0. Angle hits 6 of 10 passes ( and 2 were dropped) for 50 yds and runs for 8 yds as YSU ran up 5 rushing TDs vs outmanned Valpo. Next weeks game Vs Albany ( N.Y.) will have the Penguins favored and Angle expected to see more play time.

YSU has beaten ranked FCS teams Albany and Northern Iowa to remain undefeated. This week they are off and preparing to meet #1 ranked North Dakota St. in the FargoDome. YSU played there last year where they upset The National Champs of FCS in a blow-out win. Game will pit the #1 Bison vs the #3 ranked Penguins.
