Strickland's budget proposal could close libraries! Act Now!

Post by seven40 »

Governor Strickland’s proposed budget cuts Public Library Funding by 50 percent. This would be devastating to our libraries in Ohio.

For our Library system (Portsmouth Library & branches), this would mean shortened hours, fewer books and DVDs, cuts in children’s programs, fewer staff to help you, branch closures, the Bookmobile would cease operations and limited free internet access!

You can help by contacting legislators now and telling them that the Portsmouth Public Library is important to you and urge them not to approve the governor’s proposal to drastically reduce library funding.

Governor Ted Strickland
Riffe Center, 30th Floor
77 South High Street
Columbus, OH 43215-6018
(614) 466-3555

Representative Todd Book
77 S. High Street
11th Floor
Columbus, OH 43215-6111
(614) 466-2124
Email: district89@ohr.state.oh.us

Senator Tom Niehaus
Senate Building, Room 220
Second Floor
Columbus, OH 43215
(614) 466-8082
Email: SD14@senate.state.oh.us

Not only would you help the library and community by voicing your opinions, you would help my wife and I since we are both employed by the PPL. We only have 2-3 days to make our voices heard in Columbus. Please email or call Governor Strickland or other legislators and let them know they are making a big mistake.
Thanks!!

I absolutely agree that our public libraries are an important resource for all of us. It is a huge shame that this funding gets potentially put on the chopping block in order to reduce government budgets.
We are in hugely tough times [handed us by 8 years of supposedly "fiscally responsible, conservative" governmental policies]. Back when, these choices were called "guns or butter". Some thought we could have both - or that guns would produce butter [read "oil"].
Our tax money provides services - if we want the services then we vote for and pay the taxes. Deciding which services are worthy, more important, most needed is the same kind of prioritizing most of us are making in our own personal budgets. Tough decisions!!
