(CNSNews.com) - In data released Thursday afternoon, the Federal Reserve revealed that its holdings of U.S. government debt had increased to an all-time record of $1,696,691,000,000 as of the close of business on Wednesday.

The Fed's holdings of U.S. government debt have increased by 257 percent since President Barack Obama was first inaugurated on Jan. 20, 2009, and the Fed is currently the single largest holder of U.S. government debt.

As of the end of November, according to the U.S. Treasury, entities in Mainland China owned about $1,170,100,000,000 in U.S. government debt, making China the largest foreign holder of U.S. government debt.

When Obama was inaugurated in 2009, the Fed owned $475.322 billion in U.S. government debt. As of the close of business on Wednesday, Jan. 23, the Fed owned $1.696691 trillion in U.S. government debt, up $1.221369 trillion during Obama's first term.

Since Obama has been president, the publicly held portion of the U.S. government debt (as opposed to the "intragovernmental" deb the government has borrowed from federal trust funds such as the Social Security Trust Fund) has increased by $5,264,245,866,257.40. The $1.221369 in additional U.S. government debt the Fed has purchased during Obama's presidency equals 23 percent of all the new publicly held debt the Treasury has issued during that time.

simply not true...............I see MD is not a math wizzard..........The facts, "As of Jan. 20, 2009, the publicly held debt was $6.31 trillion and the gross debt was $10.63 trillion. As of May 14, 2012, the publicly held debt was $10.92 trillion and the gross debt was $15.68 trillion.

So, the publicly held debt has grown by $4.61 trillion, and the gross debt has grown by $5.05 trillion. Thus it’s certainly correct that the national debt has grown by about $5 trillion under Obama. Obama is nothing but a puppet. First he is against gay marriage, then all of sudden he sees the possibilities with it. He was for gun ownership and the 2nd amendment, now against it.

And fact of the matter is this: Obama has been on an irresponsible spending spree for the past 4 years. What looked to be a national debt that we would never get out from under had it's fate sealed with him in office.

You can say Bush this and Bush that, Obama did NOTHING to stop it from happening, supported the bailouts and under the table deals with big business and that is where we are now. It happened ON HIS WATCH. Just like HILARY. For crying out loud, is there a Dem that is decent enough to take responsibility for what THEY have done???

Republican or democrat.....it doesnt matter. The problem will only get worse while on Obama's watch. This is what you get when a one term Senator gets elected as our president who has ZERO military, business and economic experience. Its not hard to figure out.
