NEW YORK - Oil prices plunged by more than $2 Monday, sliding below $58 a barrel on moderating U.S. temperatures and expectations that there will be a crude surplus in the spring.

The chill of the past couple weeks, which drove prices briefly above $60 on Friday, is expected to ease up by late February, leading traders to believe that heating fuel demand will weaken.

"We continue the roller coaster that oil prices have been on pretty much since the end of the year. After not being able to sustain above $60, the market really gave way," said Andrew Lebow of Man Financial Inc. "Now, the market's looking ahead toward warmer weather at the end of the month."

So why did the gas prices jump???? I think we all should file an report with the attorney generals office for price gouging.....

Think there's not a conspiracy?

All last weekend, prices at the two Peake stations stayed at $ 2.35 where they'd jumped from $ 2.21. meanwhile, the price at 15th St. Citgo in Huntington stayed at $ 2.23. When Peake prices fell to $ 2.21, the Hunt. price stayed at $2.23. However, when Peake prices jumped to $2.35, the Hunt. price jumped to $2.42!

Friends, it'll at least a month or more before we pump any gas made from oil that reached a refinery today. We are being gouged by these oil robber barons, & our govt. doesn't have the testosterone to stop them.

Low 2.38
Highest 2.39

I guess the arguement that the prices rise so much in the summer because we drive more can be thrown out the window being that only three weeks ago the price was down to 1.99.
