Sticker Shock at the Grocery: Soaring Wheat Prices Mean More

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Expensive Food in Every Aisle.

Another sign that the country is so worse off than may seem to think.

The price of wheat has more than tripled during the past 10 months, making Americans' daily bread -- and bagels and pizza and pasta -- feel a little like luxury items. And baked goods aren't the only ones getting more expensive: Experts expect some 80 percent of grocery prices will spike, too, and could remain steep for years because wheat and other grains are used to feed cattle, poultry and dairy cows.

I'd say the exported food items that go to the oil producing countries should have a pretty nice price on them also. ;-)

I say don't buy oil from them for 1 day and they will have no storage for it. Put them in a bind. Open our reserves and then shut off all foreign trade to them or make them pay the price if they need it that bad. It's called reverse phsycology!!!!!

I wonder what happened to the Alaskan oil and the pipeline :?: I remember 35 years ago or so that a few of my high school friends went there to work on the pipeline.

Miss my whole family working for a bread company (Flowers'; Betsy Ross Bread).

My uncle and cousin still works for the company in Nashville (at one point both parents, sister, grandma, grandpa, 2 aunts, 3 uncles, several cousins work for the company) and they were talking about the cost going up quite a bit around Christmas time.
