Salary vs Hourly
I work at an automotive manufacturing plant and in the last month they have laid off 20% of the hourly workforce and not 1 salary person. Does this sound right to you? ![new46 :aaaaa46](./images/smilies/faces/016.gif)

Re: Salary vs Hourly
Yes it does make since actually. see with hourly personnel they have to pay overtime pay. with salary as long as a person makes 26,500 (I think thats the amount may be a little more but not much) with the law they passed a few years back they can have them work extra hours and never have to pay the overtime pay.
so the employer is actually saving money this way and paying out less.

Not in my plant. Salaray people don't do any production work. They don't produce a thing.

Re: Salary vs Hourly
At times hourly employees are under a union and salary, most of the time, are in management.
Lets lower the union members--but then a lot of times when a company is takin over by someone else and they leave the union in they will get rid of salary or reduce wages.
