What Route do you Take to Myrtle Beach

Post by MightyOaksFan »

Myrtle Beach is where a lot of people from this area head to. Just wondering what roads you take to get there. We have been fortunate the last few years to find a new way that shaves off a couple of hours.

What are your secrets?

The route we took resulted in a 500-mile drive from Ironton. It took us about 9 hours and 15 minutes to get to the beach.

I will post the route we take later as soon as I find them  We usually stop twice(once for gas and another time for restroom/snack) and we get there in about 8 1/2 hours. We do not go that much over the speed limit plus we have my dad following us in another car as well.

that would be...US 52 to Huntington, cross the first bridge, go west on I-64 and take the Tri-state Airport exit to the airport

Does anyone else go over towards Winston Salem or do you stick to the old Charlotte way?

We take 35
Then 64 East
77 South
74 East towards Greensboro/Winston Salem
52 South
421 South
40 East
220 SOuth which turns into 1 south
then 9 south when entering SC
SC 38 South turns into 501
and finally 22 to get to the northern part of Myrtle so that we don't have to fight with 501 traffic

Here's how we go.

64 EAST

77 SOUTH

89 EAST (FOR GAS EXIT 100)

74

52 SOUTH MT AIRY 74 BY PASS

40 EAST GREENSBORO-WINSTON SALEM

220 ROCKINGHAM

(220 RUNS INTO HIGHWAY 1 JUST GO STRAIGHT)

1

9 CHERAW

38 BENNETTSVILLE

501 CONWAY-MYRTLE BEACH

MightyOaks Fan I think we took 22 also last year since we stayed down on Lake Arrowhead Row. How long does it take you all to get there?

The hubby did make it down there in 8 hours once but he was by himself and made one stop for gas. I am sure he was doing the speed limit the whole way

Don't take IR74 stay on 52 south to Lexington (Home of the best Barbecue pork in America) Then take NC state route 64 east to Asheboro part of it is two lane but the traffic is light only locals. pretty views of rural America and it saves time :-D
