Had I been the first officer on-site, I believe I woulda smoked the perp ASAP after being attacked-if possible. i can't sit here & second-guess anyone at the scene cuz I wasn't there, & don't have all the facts. And I 100% support the deputies' actions.
Doubtlessly some New-Age-Liberals will tryta make a racial issue outta this, & I say if they do, they oughtta be tarred-and-feathered outta Lawrence County.

I think the officers did what they had to do. They were in a possible life threatening situation and had to protect themselves.

I grew up with the guy that was killed and my heart grieves for his mother but with that being said if it was me in the situation that the officers were in I would have responded the same way if not sooner. Prayers to all involved!

Re: Man killed after stabbing 2 deputies...
Once in my police career, I went with another officer to a home to arrest a young man who had an arrest warrant against him. He tried to hide under a bed, but we saw him. The other officer tossed me the shotgun he was carrying while he cuffed the perp, who offered no resistance. as he were preparing to depart, the man's 300-lb mother grabbed for the shotgun.(At no time did she gain control of it.) I wrested it from her grasp & hit her in the face with the butt. It knocked her down a flight of stairs, breaking a leg, & she had a coupla broken bones in her face from my blow. When she got outta the hospital, we took her straight to jail; she subsequently served 3 months for assault on an officer.
The situation coulda been a lot worse had I not been on my guard. Far as I know, neither mother nor son ever got in trouble again.
Biggest mistake a cop around here can make is to think, "It won't happen to ME. I'm a small-town cop, or a rural-county cop, & things like that occur only in big cities."
