Those who keep saying things are getting better should tell these guys just that.
The stores are closing.
The report said the biigerst reason, the economy.

Re: Value City Department Stores closing
I was in the one in Lancaster last week and everything was on sale and no returns on things and the receipt was yellow I figured that was what was going on! Sad I liked shopping there...

I shopped at their furniture stores several times to price items and they were never very competive with other area stores, so this doesn't surprise me.

The furniture stores are not part of the department stores, different owners.
Re: Value City Department Stores closing
I was surprised when I had to Matthews Ford, that the Value City in Heath was closed. I normally got some good buys there for Christmas gifts.

I don't know how soon the contract is up, but I'd say whatever they are
paid up to, when that ends, so will the name.

I've shopped at both and am really surprised that both are not shutting down. Lot's of good competition out there.

I have a cousin who has worked for Value City since she was 16. She was a buyer. She is 46 and looking for a job for the first time in her life.

I hope she has better luck then I am having. I am 45 and have out 40 resumes as of now and have had no luck. I am looking at going back into management at fast food places.Mouth's Better Half wrote:I have a cousin who has worked for Value City since she was 16. She was a buyer. I love shopping at Value City. Its interesting that places that has the best values on clothes and things goes out of business, but places like Kmart which has fallen way off the list of great places to shop continue to eek by. Look at Steve and Berrys closing they have cheap everything yet they are closing. You think in these economic times these places would thrive while places like Target, Wal Mart, and Kmart woudl be feeling the squeeze.

I heard rumor that Wal-Mart is going to start closing at 11 P.M., instead of staying open 24 hours.

Some already have. Those are the ones in some of the bad areas like Whitehall.
