it's sad to see her going down, the outside looked so regal. but the inside was falling apart. i think it was time. 1 thing that made me very sad as i sat on the heplar side looking at the open end of the school. i saw a flag hanging in a classroom. this angered me. at least honor the flag, by removing them. if there are more, please get them out. i will if allowed. thats just wrong. it looked more like ground zero. man, have a heart.

They took the flag down before they finished that part of the building.

I took my flag with me when I packed up for my classroom this year.

I will miss driving by the old building when in town, But The fact is that it is a lot more important for the kids of today to have great schools than it is for old grads like us to drive by it with fond memories!!

My husband and I went by the school around 2:30 this afternoon and the flag was still hanging there. My husband said if he could get in there he would get it down. Some people have no respect for anything anymore.

I dont know why, all the teachers did not take them down like itownpaw.

but still, you would think someone "any one " would get them down befor they started construction

You would think dowwgg...and wonder if there was a final walkthrough how they missed it? I just rec'd pics on email from a classmate who has been documenting this process. The flag is there when he took his pics.

The flag is flying with dignity.

It wants to go down with the ship! ;-)

I know but it almost feels like it is flying there symbolizing each one of us who hate seeing the building being torn down.

It is really bothering me to watch it go.

I didn't think it would bother me this much.

I didn't either. I know the new upgraded schools will be great for all involved. If those old walls could only talk though... ;-) It's so great to hear the older members of the family share stories from way back and know you were a part of that tradtion too, as were your kids.

Here are a couple shots I took yesterday...

And I think it is still hanging on the wall. The fence has it blocked but you can still see that red, white and blue shining thru the chain link.

I remember when they tore down our old High School in New Lex. The thing was built in 1924. I went there for 3 and 4th grade.

It is like the town was mourning for a little while.

Oh, gosh!

Those pictures make me feel sick!

I hate seeing the building like that.

It looks wounded.

I noticed yesterday that you can look right down Tiger Alley from Heplar Street.
