Boys kicked off campus for wearing American Flag Tshirts

I always wear a "patriotic" themed shirt on Election Day [which was May 4th in Ohio this year] when I go VOTE - then I read that there was only a 10% voter turnout here in Lawrence County for this primary. It's easy to wear a shirt for whatever reason - that's "lip-service" patriotism - but what's so hard about "voting" that only 10% of eligible people actually do it? The other 90% sure feel free to run their mouths, though, don't they, and glory in that freedom?
And for all you professed Christians - isn't "political correctness" - which you deplore - essentially the same as the "Golden Rule" - treat others as you wish to be treated yourself?
Sure those kids had/have the right to wear clothes with a US flag depicted.
But wouldn't it have been fun to JOIN in the celebration of Cinco de Mayo with their classmates and wear Mexican colors that day? Don't we all [Irish or not] wear "green" on St Patrick's Day?

I'd been offended if I was these boys too and all these so called American students were prancing up and down with another countries' flag like they are doing. This is the United States Of America, it's not an extension of Mexico or Canada. There is no reason to have these type of celebrations at any public school.


...and by the way, I AM following the Golden Rule when I say these things. I wouldn't want or expect to be able to parade around with the Scottish flag just because my family came from Scotland. I'm an American!

...again, if they're offended by the American flag...let 'em crawl across the border into Mexico...

I thought the exact same thing. Not only would it be fun but it would go a long way toward healing the tensions and hard feelings that are obviously present in many communities that have large ethnic populations. These type of celebrations enrich our country and shed light on our nations rich heritage. There's nothing to fear.

It's too bad that these boys would rather antagonize their classmates than join them in something we should and can be proud of.

whew this sounds familiar. we had a discussion very similiar to this on my page on facebook. it garnered over 180 responses between the 2 topics, watch and see the next thing coming is flying mexican flags next to the united state flags , at our schools, churches, courthouse. we are too soft , and letting our nation be run ashore by dipsticks. it's gonna get worse before it gets better. trust me. then once we fly one countries flag , everybody will get in the act.

It has been a few years back but at some schools in California the Mexican or Mexican-American students had a little protest and they raised the Mexican flag in place of the American flag. So that is not over the top thinking by YTB. Also we have to choose Spanish when making phone calls on many things now a days. They want to be proud about the country they left to come here. That is where many now do not respect our country but want to reap the benefits of living in our country. They will also protect others from their country that are here illegal. We have laws for people who hide those from the law. But in this case they let that go.

This is not even an important holiday for Mexican's in Mexico. I like it what one comedian said about this being just one day but this whole month is National Cheeseburger month.

Unlike some others I appreciate the contributions other ethnic groups have made to our country. I also don't feel threatened just because they feel a fondness from where they came and celebrate their heritage on a special day.

But then again I'm pretty darn happy to be called a "progressive"........

I don't owe them or any other hyphenated group horse manure. MOST hyphenated morons could care less about the success or failure of America. They are here for a free ride and will do just about anything, to include murder, to get it.
