Glad to see Eric Johnson, Satriani, and Billy Sheehan on some lists here...

Two I like from current bands - Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu from Trivium.

Hendrix is still one of my all-time favorite players.

The guitarist who made me want to play guitar years and years ago - Ace Frehley (not the best chops, but how can you beat a smoking guitar that shoots rockets from its neck)?

David Gilmour - now there is a guitarist that is amazing without being fast or complex. Incredibly tasteful.

Anybody ever hear Rick Miller of Southern Culture on the Skids? He really a great guitarist - but I like what he does, a mix of rockabilly and surf....uses a lot of interesting old cheap guitars (Danelectros and the like). Plus, you gotta love a band that sings songs about fried chicken, dirt track racing, pro-wrestling, etc.. Very fun shows.
