Mid-day snow update. (change: US 35 gets hit the hardest.)

Post by mvlnewlex »

Ok. I have been trying to nail down where the heaviest snow will fall. Here is what I am thinking.

Things have shifted south.

The heaviest snow will right along the US 35 corridor. From Dayton to Gallipolis. 3 to 5 inches in this area. A little sleet could mix in around Ironton and Portsmouth. I will say 2 to 4 inches there.

Further north across the Hocking and Muskingum valley areas. Expect a general 2 to 3 inch snowfall.

A lot like the clipper we had last winter in reguards to the track.

The snow moves in after midnight and continues through Wednesday afternoon.

My guess is After they do a 2hr delay and see that it will not stop the kiddies will be home. IF it hits at Midnight and continues on like they said it is supposed to.

I agree, just don't want to get too excited and stay up all night waiting on it to hit.

The ground is warm so I bet it just hits it and melts away.

It can only melt so much before the melted stuff start to surface freeze, Plus some areas had trouble with Icey roads over the weekend so the ground is cold enough in some areas of the state

ODOT is taking precautions. I saw the de-icer dried to the highway on US 52 in Lawrence County today.

When the Hospice nurse arrived today, she said they were de-icing 35 between Gallipolis and Jackson. She asked me if we were expecting snow. :-D

Heavy snow spreading into Northwestern Ohio.

I am impressed with the bright snow bands extending all the way back to Minneapolis.

Some of that is virga.

The first flakes should fall in Columbus around midnight and spread southeast from there.

2 to 3 inches from Columbus and Lancaster to Parkersburg.

3 to 5 inches from Chillicothe and Jackson to Point Pleasant.

I am DECREASING snowfall totals slightly around Portsmouth, Ironton and Huntington. I am very concerned that temperatures could go slightly above freezing for a few hours tomorrow morning. There could be some sleet or rain mix in. So I am thinking 1 to 3 inches.

This means there is going to be a sharp cut off somewhere over extreme southern Ohio. US 35 still seems to be a significant boundry for heavy snow along and north. With a snow/sleet mix JUST to the south of there.

The public school officals have always been such boneheads.

Post a 2 hour delay while the heaviest snow in less than 2 hours away on radar. Real smart guys. real smart.

When my mom was in school, they had this superintendent who almost never called off school. It was rare. His name was Clyde. People always said "you can slide with Clyde"...lol
