Having worked night shift for many years I still find that, even though I have been retired nearly a decade now, 3:00 PM feels like the time to sleep for me, and 3:00 AM finds me wide awake.
Since my grandson came to live with me over a year ago I have been forced to live a more "dayshift" life, but give me half a chance [like sitting down], and I'm out like a light come mid afternoon.
My father was a dairy farmer - obviously up early every morning to milk the cows, do the daily barn chores, and whatever seasonal farming things were required.
When he came back to the house for lunch each day, he took a 20-minute nap after he ate. He set the oven timer on the stove for 20 minutes, lay down on the couch in the family room and was instantly asleep. When that timer dinged, he was just as instantly back awake and back out to the barn/field. I have never known anyone else who could "nap" with such "precision" as he did. That 20 minutes was all he needed to recharge his batteries and get back at it.

Re: Afternoon naps may boost your memory
My sister does what she calls power naps. She will sleep for about 10 or 15 minutes and then she is good to go. If I nap during the day, I can't get to sleep at night.

Sometimes a little nap helps.
A nap makes me feel refreshed and ready to finish the day.
Although, I can not remember the last time I was able to take one!
