"We haven't seen demand increase yet, but all the good news about the economy seems to be adding fuel to the fire," said Gerard Rigby, an energy analyst with Fuel First Consulting in Sydney. "Just the fact that things are improving is enough to change the sentiment of a lot of people."

Oil prices edge higher
Benchmark crude for September delivery rose 9 cents to $68.14 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Friday, the contract rose 89 cents to settle at $68.05.
But even with growing signs of optimism, demand for oil has remained weak.

Oil settles above $70 as dollar falls
Oil prices should be depressed right now, given the tepid demand for gasoline and a growing surplus of crude in the U.S. But Newedge analyst Antoine Halff said the tactic of buying oil contracts as a hedge against inflation is "back with a vengeance."

Oil rises slightly to near $71 despite weak demand
VIENNA (AP) -- Oil prices moved closer to $71 Friday as investors brushed off bad U.S. economic news, betting instead that the American economy, the world's largest crude consumer, will recover later this year.
Oil prices have oscillated near $71 a barrel for about two weeks as investors weigh lackluster U.S. consumer demand against expectations the economy could rebound strongly next year from recession.

Some analysts said conditions were building up for oil prices to break out of their recent range between $70 and $85 a barrel and reach an average of $92 a barrel in the second half of 2010.

Re: Oil holds above $67 amid improving US economy
If oil continues to rise on foreign consumption, Americans may see their energy prices grow even though they're not using more fuel. So far, however, that hasn't happened.

Make that 12% now
An extended surge in crude prices will force gasoline and other fuels higher as well. Retail gas prices already have started to increase this week, and experts predict the national average will hit $3 a gallon this summer.

Oil prices might be raising but wait till you get the new tax bills to pay for the new health care bill . Just read where Ohio's Kucinich has agreed to vote yes on it. I'd be writing him if I lived there and letting him know about it
