My mom brought up this old muzzle load rifle, last Sunday, that has sat in the closet ever since I could remember. She wanted me to have it and the powder horn that went with it. The powder horn has the name Pearl Walton- Wellston Ohio scratched into it. The rifle is massive. 55 inches overall, 41 inch barrel, and weighs over 12 lbs. Its a .41 calibur, which is unusual itself, for blackpowder rifles. Any markings that were on the rifle are long gone.
When I was a kid, I remember my grandfather telling me that his dad had the rifle when he was a kid and cannot remember if my great- granddad traded around for it or purchased it. It is possible that he traded for it, since he ran a huckster wagon route out of the Allensville-Byer-Wellston area for years.
Anybody who knows the Walton family might be able to tell me more of this rifles history.

Since you have a location, the old census records would be the way to go. A lot of the old records are now searchable by place and name. If you know anyone with a subscription to Ancestry.com, that would be a good place to start.
My brother-in-law is a Walton but he moved to Lancaster from Michigan as a child and I don't think he has any Walton relatives in the Wellston area.
