Stefanie Spielman passes away at 42

Post by seofan_via_dublin »

I know this is a topic on the college sports forum, but many more people check here than there,
and this story affects everyone who has had cancer in their family, and that's pretty much everyone.

Stefanie died today at age 42, after a battle with cancer that dated back to 1998.
She was a loving wife, a caring mother, a great Buckeye, and a person who touched my life
in ways that she will never know.

How strange is it, knowing that she was diagnosed with this when she was like 32, and she passes just ONE day after the GOVT. says women don;t need to get tested until they ar 50.

Early detection is key

Through her foundation, she raised 6.5 million dollars to date for breast cancer research at the James.

She also raised awareness for all forms of cancer, and brought recognition to cancer patient caregivers and support teams,
call "Stefanie's Heroes" An honor that came about in thanks for her husband, Chris's love and dedication to her.

Chris is my favorite Buckeye for his play on the field, and because of his support for his wife. His story hit's me in the heart, my wife and I have dealt with her cancer for 7 years together. I hold Chris and Stefanie as my heroes.

The government doesn't want to pay for the extra testing that can save lives, and allowed Stef to live, and do the great work she did and
will continue to be done through her foundation.

I am very saddened by her passing, but am very happy to know that she is done suffering,
that she will one day be reunited with Chris and her family, and that the work done in her memory
will continue to save lives.

Cancer is no respecter of persons.

I followed the life of Heather Pick as I was not happy when she left the Huntington, WV station for the big city of Columbus.

The stories of both of these ladies are very inspirational.

Cancer is insidious and hopefully can be beaten sometimes.

On that note, and to make me smile in light of her passing...
...Jim Tressel was very close to the family, and donates massive amounts to cancer research each year.
He will have the team focused, and ready to play, and I'm certain that he will have the memory of the Spielman family in their minds.

Michigan couldn't win one for Bo, but I'm darn sure that the Buckeyes will win it for Stefanie.

SEO, I really understand where you are coming from. Having just lost my grandfather to cancer, though he only lasted a couple months after his diagnosis. Caring for a loved one who has this takes a commitment unknown to many, and I hope MANY never have to go through this.

Bless for being by your wifes side while she goes through this, and may you have MANY MANY MANY more years with her. and SEO, it is great you hading them as your heros, however YOU SIR and YOUR WIFE are heros for many to admire

Once my wife and I were discussing life and her cancer struggle,
she asked me, what I'd give up to see her be fully healthy again.

I told her, "I'd give up the Buckeyes, and become a Michigan fan."

She smiled, and said, that's even better than saying you'd give up your own life!!!

I love my wife, and Stefanie and Chris, as a couple have been inspirations to us both.

A co-worker from Ironton lost his wife today after a long illness. I can't even imagine how one begins to deal with that loss. It makes us all reflect on appreciating what you have and how quickly it can be taken away from you.

My thoughts go out to the Spielman family.

My thoughts also go out to the family of Melony McClellan.

She just passed away from cancer too.

Her cancer started out as breast cancer.

She has battled cancer for more than 15 years.

She was a secretary for the Ironton City Schools.

She was a great friend who always had a smile on her face.

She raised three great children along with her husband.

I'm saddened also by her loss, but am also happy for all the things she done to help in the fight against cancer. As most of you know I have lost several family members to this dreaded disease. The latest was just two weeks ago. I think the best way to honor Stefanie's memory is to get involved in the war on cancer. Start or join a Relay For Life team or support those teams. Our family has a team and it is so rewarding to know that we help fund research to find a cure as well as help make life easier for those stricken with cancer. If you have spare time, volunteer at a cancer center. Check with your local American Cancer Society and see what you can do to help. If everyone would help a cure could come sooner.

I was sadden to hear she'd lost her battle to cancer it is such an ugly ugly disease.. I was so shocked when I heard the new guidelines the other day on mammograms. Both Stefanie and Heather Pick both were very young and I know much younger woman diagnosed also.. millions are spent foolishly on studies for how long bats stay in the trees and etc. etc. but a human life is not worth a few hundred $'s ?? what is wrong with our society??? My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone that is effected by this terrible disease...
seofan_via_dublin you and your wife are always in my prayers....
g-1's family is an awesome supporter and have had so much loss from this ugly disease...
I always donated to the Stefanie Spielman fundraisers
Relay for Life is my new one
Also anyone that has a Kroger plus card check and see if they donate to any foundation... I am currently signed up for autism but I am thinking about switching every 3 months to different causes... If I find the site again I will post it here...God Bless
