Man Shoots himself in the foot at Middle School Gym!

Northwest Middle School over the weekend had more than hoops shot! Guns on school property? What was this guy thinking? It will be interesting to see how this gets handled. Looks like it's time for metal detectors and a Sheriff in the hallway.

What was he doing with a gun on school property anyway? Was he someone that worked at the school or just someone there for a ballgame? Either way he should have known better. What a moron!!

He is 70 years old and has a concealed carry permit, but that doesn't pertain to school grounds. The gun fell out of his jacket pocket when he took a "Jump shot" in the gym. I thought, 70 years old and taking jump shots. WOW.

When I told my wife he was in the Northwest Gym shooting basketball with a gun in his jacket pocket and it fell out, hit the floor and went off strking him in the leg she said, "I bet that made him swallow his snuff!" Now that's funny right there now, I don't care who you are, that's funny.

First the idiot should know that you can't carry guns on school grounds.
Second why didn't he have a holster
and third, They will give anyone a conceal carry so you are bound to have stupid crap like this happen.

Here's the story..
There's a photo of the gun on WSAZ's website here http://www.wsaz.com/news/headlines/82993027.html It's one of those little 22 (I think it is a 22, might be a 25) derringers. As one person posted on WSAZ website: "What kind of goof carries a derringer? Modern weapons have firing pin blocks and cannot go off unless the trigger is pulled. Grandpa will be a felon and have to give up all his guns."

McDermott, OH (WSAZ) -- At the top of the forbidden carry zones for concealed weapons -- schools.

One man is recovering Thursday from a gunshot he received inside a middle school. Recovery is just the beginning of his problems, though, which may end in prison time.

Northwest Schools Superintendent Todd Jenkins says late afternoon Tuesday, a middle school student was in the gym shooting basketball, waiting on practice to start. Jenkins says the student's grandfather showed up to bring the student some food.

Jenkins said the grandfather shot some hoops too, with a loaded handgun in his pocket.

"The pistol fell out of his pocket, hit the floor, fired -- and shot through his leg," Jenkins said.

The grandfather was rushed to the hospital with a serious leg injury.

"We don't know if he just forgot or disregarded the gun in his pocket," Chief Deputy Todd Miller of the Scioto County Sheriff's Department said.

Sheriff's investigators say the 70-year-old man walked in the school's back door, past the "No Concealed Guns in School" sign. They say he had the proper conceal carry permit, but maybe he didn't have the understanding to carry the gun safely.

"A properly concealed weapon should not go off if dropped," said Miller.

"We're lucky that there were not other students in the gym," said Jenkins.

Superintendent Jenkins says he knows hunters come to Friday night school games with deer rifles in their trucks. He says that is a felony.

There was no arrest in the case of this grandfather, but deputies and prosecutors are meeting on what the exact gun crime charge might be.

Folks may carry a legal concealed weapon on school property if they are moving through, picking up or dropping off a student.
