Democrats Shift Language on Israel, Remove ‘God-Given’ From Platform
CHARLOTTE — For Democrats, there is no God in 2012 — at least as far as the party’s platform is concerned.
Nor is there a Jerusalem.
Democrats removed those two words, and the passages surrounding them, from the 2012 party platform as it was released this week.
In Charlotte on Monday, the Democratic National Committee released its 2012 party platform after the DNC Platform Committee approved it under the leadership of Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker. The Platform Drafting Committee, led by Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, gathered feedback for an initial draft in Minneapolis over the summer.
Gone are three sentences identifying Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, now and forever. There is no mention of Jerusalem in the 2012 document, after the 2008 version included this mention:
Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel. The parties have agreed that Jerusalem is a matter for final status negotiations. It should remain an undivided city accessible to people of all faiths.
Also gone is this reference to Hamas:
The United States and its Quartet partners should continue to isolate Hamas until it renounces terrorism, recognizes Israel’s right to exist, and abides by past agreements.
President Obama has publicly endorsed a two-state solution for Israel. Disagreements between his administration and Israel have at times become public, as the president has opposed new settlement construction, and the Jewish state’s more hawkish supporters have relentlessly criticized him for his handling of U.S./Israeli relations.
“The Obama Administration has followed the same policy towards Jerusalem that previous U.S. Administrations of both parties have done since 1967,†a DNC spokeswoman said of the change in platform language. “As the White House said several months ago, the status of Jerusalem is an issue that should be resolved in final status negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians – which we also said in the 2008 platform. We will continue to work with the parties to resolve this issue as part of a two state solution that secures the future of Israel as a Jewish state and the homeland of the Jewish people.â€
Also gone is a previous reference to “God.â€
The Democratic Party’s 2008 platform mentioned “God†once, in this passage (emphasis added):
We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.
Explaining the removal, a Democratic official explained: “The 2008 platform reference is ‘God-given’ and is about growing the middle class and making America fair, not actually about faith. The platform includes an entire plank on the importance of faith based organizations and the tremendous work that they do. Further, the language we use to talk about faith and religion is exactly the same vocabulary as 2008. I would also note that the platform mentions: ‘faith’ 11 times; ‘religion’ or ‘religious’ 9 times; ‘church’ 2 times (one is a quote); and, ‘clergy’ 1 time.â€

Do you know what else doesn't mention God? THE CONSTITUTION.

Whatever happened to the old adage to never discuss religion or politics in public? If more people did that, we'd have much less problems today.

Lots of exciting speeches at the DNC last night. Can't wait to hear Bill Clinton speak tonight. It sure beats the snoozefest that was the RNC convention last week. No wonder more people watched "Honey Boo Boo" on TLC than watched the RNC last week!!!!!!

Wow, another good 'un out of that bunch down there:
The Democratic National Committee banned dozens of Charlotte churches from distributing gift baskets to delegates because the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform.
“They told us our views on women’s rights are contrary to the Democratic party platform,†said David Benham, the lead organizer of the Charlotte714 religious movement.
Charlotte714 is a group of more than 100 churches across the region that mobilized to pray for the Democratic National Convention. More than 9,000 people gathered last Sunday for a time of worship and prayer in advance of the convention. The event was ignored by the national media.

Well let's see...am I more concerned that Ryan didn't quote his actual marathon time or that the top D's keep claiming we have added 4.5 million jobs when in reality it is a net gain of 300'000 and that's not taking into account the million public sector jobs lost. Yeah I agree the R's are the liars to fear here...

Re: Yes - This Might Be Called Political - Removing God!
The failed economic policies of the Bush administration caused this mess. Mitt Romney would return the US to those same failed policies.
If you fall down a hole, you don't stop falling until you reach the bottom. The US was plummeting down a hole thanks to the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration. No one could stop the fall mid-stream. It had to play itself out.
Obama had done about as much as one man can do.
OSAMA BIN LADEN IS DEAD AND GENERAL MOTORS IS ALIVE!

Re: Yes - This Might Be Called Political - Removing God!
I can't believe this is America!
The Democratic National Committee banned dozens of Charlotte churches from distributing gift baskets to delegates because the congregations hold values that are contrary to the party platform, according to local religious leaders.
A gathering of some 200 Muslims praying in Charlotte was given extensive national coverage. The massive Christian received scant coverage.
Benham said the name references an Old Testament passage in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – calling the nation to prayer.
He said 56 churches wanted to “Adopt-a-Delegation.†They put together gift baskets featuring Carolina Pralines and a letter welcoming them to the city and offering assistance in transportation, childcare or spiritual matters.
“We were just trying to display Southern hospitality,†he said. “We wanted them to know we were happy to serve them.â€
However, DNC officials conveyed to city leaders that the Christians would not be allowed to present their gift baskets.
“I got a call from the mayor’s office speaking on behalf of the convention and they asked us not to participate,†he said. “They told us our views on women’s rights are contrary to the platform.â€
Benham said he was shocked because all the churches involved are mainline denominations ranging from Baptists and Methodists to Assembly of God.
“I was blown away and could not believe it,†he told Fox News.
So instead of gift baskets, Benham asked if they could send welcome letters to the delegates. Again, he said the DNC refused – because the churches hold pro-life values.
“They responded back and said no because our views on women,†he said. “They would not allow it.â€
Benham said it is true that all the churches are pro-life – but the baskets did not include a single political or pro-life message. They just wanted to give them regional candies and a welcome letter.
A spokesman for the city of Charlotte referred comments to the DNC. The DNC did not return numerous calls seeking comment.
Benham said it’s no surprise that the Democrats have now removed God from their party platform
“The Democrats have spit in the face of God they spit in the face of unborn children,†Benham said. “They spit in the face of marriage. They are spitting in God’s face. Americans need to rise up and see to it they have their day and are escorted out of power in this country.â€
