Forty Seven Hundred A Plate

People are hurting under his failed policies while he dines like a king and spends like a drunk sailor
President Obama has spent far more lavishly on White House state dinners than previous chief executives, including nearly $1 million on a 2010 dinner for Mexico's president, according to documents obtained by The Washington Examiner.

Presidents have long used formal dinners to court foreign heads of state and to dish out fine food and wine to reward political, financial and show business celebrities and supporters.

But current and former government officials said the documents obtained by The Examiner point to an unprecedented upsurge in White House spending on such events.

The Obama extravaganza two years ago for Mexican President Felipe Calderon, which included a performance by pop star Beyonce, cost $969,793, or more than $4,700 per attendee, the documents show.

The Calderon dinner was held on the South Lawn in a massive tent adorned with decorated walls, hanging chandeliers, carpeting and a stage for Beyonce's performance.

Guests rode private trolley cars from the White House to the tent. Celebrity guest chef Rick Bayless from Chicago’s Topolobampo restaurant was imported to prepare Oaxacan black mole, black bean tamalon and grilled green beans.

The dinner for the prime minister of India -- which was famously crashed by Virginia couple Michaele and Tareq Salahi -- cost nearly half a million dollars. Dinners for Chinese Premier Hu Jintao and British Prime Minister David Cameron were of the same level of extravagance.

CHICAGO (MarketWatch) -- Swiss banking giant UBS is getting ready to roll out a plan to cut as many as 10,000 jobs, the Financial Times reports, citing unnamed sources. The move will shrink the trading side and complexity of its investment banking unit and lead to the loss of thousands of back-office positions. The job losses will represent about a sixth of the total UBS UBS -0.38% workforce, the newspaper noted, and come on top of another ongoing program to slash 3,500 jobs

DENISON, TX -- Layoffs have begun at a Grayson County company.

TrailBlazer in Denison released 21 employees Friday. This is all part of the previously announced reduction-in-work force.

TrailBlazer officials say the remaining employees are scheduled to be released next month or in December.

The company announced in June they were making major cutbacks due to an unsuccessful attempt at renewing a major contract with Medicare.

460 employees in all will be let go from the Denison facility.

Rockwell Collins Inc. (COL) said it plans to cut about 6 percent of its workforce in the next year as the aerospace manufacturer’s defense revenue falls amid curtailed U.S. military spending.

The maker of products including cockpits and radios expects to let 1,250 employees go in the fiscal year through September, Chief Executive Officer Clay Jones said in an interview. About 250 have already been given notices, he said.
